diabetes22Diabetes isn’t a condition you should ignore. If you’re in a high risk grouping for contracting the disease then it should become your life’s work to get out of that grouping. There’s plenty which you can do to achieve this and providing you never let things get too out of hand there’s nothing to stop you from being entirely healthy again. The largest risk grouping for type two diabetes are the obese. People who are overweight or obese stand a much higher chance of contracting the condition than anyone else. This is evidenced in the fact that around ¾ of type two diabetics are actually obese.

Being in a high risk group, on your way to contracting diabetes is known as being pre-diabetic. Huge amounts of research have been put into tackling and treating pre-diabetics before their condition becomes the disease itself and it becomes incurable. A lot of pre-diabetics have their trajectory reversed and go on to live normal, healthy lives. By targeting this group, doctors are trying to curb the massive rise in the levels of diabetics in the world today.

Even though obesity is such a massive risk factor there are others too. Eating certain foods or a general lack of exercise can put you at risk too. For ladies who are both obese and using long-acting reversible contraception which contains progestin (a hormone), the risk is much greater. Ladies who regularly take this contraceptive pill should consult their doctor’s for alternatives as soon as they can. This is only necessary if they’re obese too, the additional risk factor is only really dangerous to these women.

There have never been more contraceptive options on offer than there are today. If one doesn’t work or is potentially damaging, there are still plenty of others which could work perfectly for you!
