We can’t help ageing – it’s an inevitability. However, there are some things we can do to improve our health and how we look for years to come. Your diet plays a big part in the speed at which your skin and organs age, and these drinks are loaded with nutrients to give your body an extra boost.
Pink grapefruit
Pink grapefruits are packed with lycopene, which is a carotenoid which can give you smoother skin. Researchers carried out a recent study that showed that those with higher concentrations of lycopene had smoother skin.
Alcohol
In moderate doses (which is one glass a day for women and two daily drinks for men), alcohol could help to ward off dementia and Alzheimer’s disease. Brain cells die as we age which leads to gaps that slow down the nerve transmission within the brain. Research suggests that moderate drinking can prevent these gaps from appearing, though they don’t know why. However, it’s a fine line – higher doses can have the reverse effect and actually kill brain cells, so don’t overdo it.
Cocoa
Cocoa can lower your risk of heart disease and preserve the healthy function of blood vessels, as it is packed with flavanols. You should aim to keep the blood vessels healthy as these lower the risk of high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes, kidney disease and dementia.
Beetroot juice
Beetroot contains nitrates which could be beneficial to your health, as they boost your blood flow and keep the blood vessels supple. These can help to prevent dementia, by maintaining a healthy blood flow to the brain.
Green tea
Green tea is loaded with antioxidants which are great for your skin and general health, but many people don’t know that they can also quell inflammation. Type 2 diabetes, autoimmune diseases and heart disease are all made worse by inflammation, so green tea can be a great dietary preventative.
