You can juice just about any fruit or vegetable though softer fruits like melons, banana, berries, kiwi, papaya and mango work better in smoothies. You can also add leafy greens, herbs and spices for that extra nutrient boost as well as flavour. Foods with potent cleansing properties for a detox include cucumber, fennel, leek, celery, parsley, cabbage, coriander, ginger, garlic, watermelon, cranberries and apples. Try the following delicious combinations.
Cucumber and Mint
This juice is extremely cooling and refreshing.
1 large cucumber
8 mint leaves
Method
Scrub the skin of the cucumber and slice ready to juice. Rinse the mint leaves and shake dry. Juice the mint then cucumber.
Carrot, Cabbage and Beetroot
These three vegetables are a rich source of potent antioxidants and nutrients, including magnesium, sodium, potassium and vitamin C.
3 carrots
½ beetroot
¼ white cabbage
Method
Scrub the carrots and beetroot well, chop the tops off the carrots and remove the fibrous stalks of the beetroot. Wash the cabbage and shake dry. Chop all the ingredients to fit the juicer’s funnel and juice. Though the sweetness of the carrot should lighten the strong flavour of the beetroot, you can add a little water if you find the juice too intense
Apple, Leek and Ginger
Though you may not associate leeks with a drink, this relative of onions and garlic is extremely cleansing and has anti-inflammatory properties.
1 small leek
3 apples
1 inch piece of ginger
Method
Rinse and chop the base and top off the leek. Wash the apple and cut into chunks. Juice the leek, ginger then apples.
