Hollyoaks and Casualty have both been nominated for the UK Sexual Health Awards 2014.

The shows have been shortlisted for the Sexual Health Media Campaign/Storyline of the Year. Casualty is in the running following it’s episode ‘Unsilenced’, which focused on doctor Zoe helping a victim of female genital mutilation.

Hollyoaks has been nominated for its portrayal of ‘sexting’ in a story which examined the aftermath of school girl Holly Cunningham sending a revealing photograph of herself to her boyfriend.

Amanda Clapham, who plays the student, said: “I was incredibly privileged to have taken on this storyline so soon after joining the cast of Hollyoaks. Sexting is a very current issue and I hope that the storyline reached out to young people that may have found themselves feeling similar to Holly.”

She added: “We also had support from the NSPCC, who produced an online video with the four of us involved in the storyline for the new Zipit app. This is a brilliant device if ever someone feels uncomfortable when asked for a photo of themselves.”

The app is full of tips and advice about how to stay in control while texting. It features a flirting guide and images to help with responses.

The award’s winner will be announced on March 14.
