There may be fewer celebrities at the BAFTAs, Britain’s top award show for achievement in film, but there is no less fashion scrutiny than at that big daddy of all award shows one continent away, the Oscars.
Once, picking a dress that would clash with the red carpet was considered the preserve of the very foolish or the very brave. No longer. Julianne Moore collected her Best Actress BAFTA for Still Alice in a Tom Ford dress the colour of blood and rubies, cut daringly low in the front. Ms Moore is 54, but you couldn’t tell. Giving her stiff competition in both her category and on the red carpet was Wild star Reese Witherspoon, in stunning purple Stella McCartney.
Indian film
The Lunchbox, nominated for Best Film Not in English, failed to win but actress Nimrat Kaur, who was representing Team
Lunchbox, certainly scored fashion-wise in pink Georges Hobeika. Best Supporting Actress Patricia Arquette, who’s been cleaning up for her performance in
Boyhood, wore a deep maroon dress with heavy-duty earrings. (

Best Actress nominees Amy Adams and Rosamund Pike were like the yin and yang of the evening, one in white belted Stella McCartney, the other in a black Roland Mouret halterneck column. (In Pics:

British stars Keira Knightley and Felicity Jones, nominated for their roles in
The Imitation Game and
The Theory of Everything , did their home country proud. Keira dressed her baby bump in flowered Giambattista Valli while Felicity was dressed by Dior in a black bodice and pale pink skirt.
Actresses Monica Bellucci and Lea Seydoux, who co-star in Bond film SPECTRE, presented awards in a black Morticia Addams-esque gown by Azzedine Alaia and a sunny pellow Prada dress respectively.
British actress Alice Eve wore a sexy velvet dress with thigh high slit; Kristin Scott Thomas wore vintage Balmain; and Gugu Mbatha-Raw wore grey Prada.
The BAFTAs, hosted by actor Stephen Fry, were given out in London on February 8.
