Remember the days when you and your partner first met and everything was new and exciting? Now that you’re married, does everything still feel as thrilling? If not, don’t worry. It’s perfectly natural for married life to fall into a routine and even the strongest marriages can feel a bit predictable from time to time.
Where Did the Spark Go?
When you meet a new partner, it’s a fun time filled with dates, romantic meals and butterflies-in-the-tummy moments. But once you’ve been together for a few years, life can become more mundane as activities such as housework and trips to the supermarket take over day-to-day life. And let’s face it; it would be pretty hard to keep up a whirlwind romance for 20, 30, 40 years or more. But if you can add a bit of excitement back into your marriage, you’ll find that your relationship gets stronger and more enjoyable.
How to Get the Spark Back
If your marriage has got stuck in a rut it’s easy to feel depressed about the situation. Perhaps you’re not talking to each other as much as you used to, aren’t enjoying activities together or just spend all your time watching TV. If this is the case, here are some things that could add a bit of oomph back into your relationship:
Go on a Date
Make the effort to do something special together. Go for a meal or to the cinema. Treat it like a date, get dressed up and do the things you enjoyed doing when you first met.
Turn Off the TV
Television is a huge conversation killer. Instead of slumping in front of the TV, try going for a walk together. Not only will you be getting fresh air and exercise but you’ll also be able to spend quality time chatting about your day.
Surprise Each Other
Married life can be predictable, so make the effort to surprise each other. Cook a special meal, bring home a small gift or suggest a spontaneous day out.
Take up a Hobby
If every day feels the same, shake things up by taking up a new hobby. Pick something fun that you can enjoy learning together.
