Bluewater Babes Fish For A Cure Tournament benefits local breast and ovarian cancer patients.

The 2013 event drew record crowds … with more than 1,000 women in attendance, culminating in donations to three local charities.

Representing the Bluewater Babes as they presented the Kristin Hoke Breast Health Program at Jupiter Medical Center with a check for $10,000 were:

Jennifer McGrath, Michelle Bussert, Shannon Perez, Rena Toppe Ueltschi, Mary Van Fleet, Geri Visconti, Chelsea Lasater, Beth Fabich and Dana Sedlack.

Hear the Ovarian Whisper and The Cancer Alliance of Help and Hope were additional beneficiaries of the funds.

The Kristin Hoke Breast Health Program has particular meaning to the Bluewater Babes … as Kristin had previously fished in the 2009 tournament and was a huge inspiration to many.

Founder Jennifer McGrath was pleased to partner with a local hospital, Jupiter Medical Center, and form a mutually beneficial relationship.

Jupiter Medical Center President and CEO John Couris expressed his gratitude to the Bluewater Babes who have come together to support breast cancer research in the area.

He was all the more impressed with it being a grassroots community event.

The donation helps maintain the Kristin Hoke Breast Health Program, which began in 2010.

Couris said the significance of the program is not only due to the genetic testing associated with it but the multi-disciplinary approach to the diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer.

This is the first nationally accredited program in Palm Beach and Martin counties, recognizing that Jupiter Medical Center’s Kristin Hoke Breast Health Program provides world class care through a host of clinical pathways, protocols and a multi-disciplinary team working with the patient.

“It’s a very big program for us,” Couris said.

“We have diagnosed a lot of cancer unfortunately, but we have also saved a lot of lives; and partnering with the Bluewater Babes allows us to continue to do the work we do.

“It allows us to buy new technology, be innovative and continue to diagnose and treat cancer, ultimately making a difference in the lives of women battling cancer. It is a very significant partnership and Bluewater Babes is a wonderful organization.”

NEW INITIATIVE

In addition, Couris announced Jupiter Medical Center is launching a huge initiative with building an Oncology Campus on Military Trail with the centerpiece being a focus on breast cancer.
