Most of us rely on our cars on a daily basis. But the price of petrol, the impact on the environment and the stress caused by driving is prompting many people to ditch their cars and seek other ways to get around. It may seem like a daunting prospect but going car free, even just part-time, could have benefits for your health, your wallet, and the environment.
If it’s something you’d like to try, here are some tips:
- Talk to neighbours, friends and family to see if you could share a car. It will take a bit of planning but you’ll be able to reduce your petrol usage and share the running costs between fewer vehicles.
- Stop using your car for short journeys and try walking instead. Not only will you reduce your carbon footprint but you’ll get fitter too.
- Find out if your workplace could operate a car sharing scheme. The same goes for your children’s school. By sharing the daily commute, you’ll save money and have a more sociable start to your day.
- Research journey sharing websites to find other people who are heading the same way as you who may be willing to share the journey.
If you really can’t get rid of your car, even for one day a week, consider how your driving patterns affect your fuel consumption. For advice and tips visit: www.eta.co.uk
