Hypnosis is becoming an increasingly popular therapy for helping to control appetite and encourage weight-loss. But does it work?

Yes – Kim

I’d tried every diet under the sun in my attempt to lose weight but nothing worked. Then a friend suggested hypnotherapy. I was sceptical at first but couldn’t face another year of being overweight and decided to give it a go. I looked online and found a hypnotherapist in my area who specialised in weight loss. I went for three sessions in total but found that it was easy to change my eating habits after just one session.

Before trying hypnosis, I constantly craved foods that were high in sugar and fat. During the sessions, my hypnotherapist reprogrammed my brain so that I wanted to choose healthy foods rather than unhealthy ones. She also helped my unconscious brain realise when I was full so that I would stop eating once I’d had enough food.

The results have been amazing. I really haven’t felt like I’ve been on a diet at all – I just naturally crave the foods that are good for me and find it easy to eat in moderation now. As a result, I’ve lost four stone in six months. I feel happier and more positive about life in general and get so many compliments about my new shape.

I thought hypnotherapy would be expensive but it’s a small price to pay compared to all the money I’ve spent on books, gym memberships, and diet drinks over the years.

I’d definitely recommend hypnotherapy to anyone who needs to lose weight but finds that traditional diets just don’t work.

No –Frankie

In my opinion, hypnotherapy is a lazy and expensive way to try to lose weight andthere is no proof that it actually works.

People who undergo hypnosis for weight loss may find that they lose weight in the short-term but from my experience, the results don’t last.

My friend tried hypnotherapy to lose weight because he had struggled to stick to a healthy diet. For a couple of weeks after the session, he did eat less and lost a few pounds but his old habits soon returned and he put the weight back on. I don’t think the hypnotherapy actually worked, I think he just started eating healthily because he was trying to convince himself that he hadn’t wasted his money.

There is no quick fix for losing weight – you have to change your entire lifestyle and take responsibility for losing weight yourself. My friend finally lost the weight after changing his diet completely and taking up exercise. You have to look at why you’re overweight – the underlying causes, rather than thinking that lying back and being hypnotised is going to help. At the end of the day, you will always need willpower if you want to lose weight and you can only supply that yourself – you can’t expect a hypnotherapist to find it for you.

Although all weight loss is important for your wellness and wellbeing, there are good ways to lose weight and there are bad ways to lose weight. A good way to lose weight is to eat healthier food and increase your fitness and activity levels, and a bad way is to follow a fad diet. In addition to this, there are several important things that you should bear in mind which can make or break your weight loss efforts.

Don’t’ skip breakfast. All research shows that eating breakfast actually helps you to control your weight. Whilst some people skip this meal, thinking that it will help them to lose weight, missing meals actually doesn’t help you to lose weight because it slows down your metabolism. It can also mean that you miss out on essential nutrients and can encourage you to snack more during the day as it leaves you feeling more hungry than you would otherwise. Just make sure that you choose a healthy, low-fat breakfast.

On the same note, you should eat regular meals. If you eat regularly throughout the day, you will burn calories at a faster rate and it also reduces the temptation to snack on other foods that are high in sugar or fat instead.

Make sure that you also eat plenty of fruit and vegetables during the day. Not only are they packed full of vitamins and minerals, but they are also high in fibre and low in calories and fat.

Your activity levels are also vitally important. The more active you are, the more likely you are to lose weight and to keep it off as well. Exercise helps to burn off any excess calories that you haven’t managed to cut out. Find some form of fitness that you enjoy and that you can fit into your daily routine.

People are always told that if they want to lose weight, they have to diet and increase their fitness. Although these things definitely do improve your wellness and wellbeing, did you know that there is a way that claims to help you lose weight without dieting?

The SENSA Weight Loss System is rapidly becoming one of the most talked-about weight loss products that is available on the market today. It has been featured in Time Magazine, Dateline NBC and The New York Times, and claims to help users lose weight simply by shaking scented ‘tastants’ over their food. It goes against everything that we have traditionally been taught about dieting, so is it just another senseless weight loss fad, or does SENSA actually work?

Hollywood celebrities have been using SENSA already, with actress Patti Stranger recently claiming to have lost 30 pounds in just 8 months by using the SENSA system. Patti says she noticed her body changing and the weight just falling off her, and the best bit was that she didn’t’ have to count calories, stick to a diet or eat any kind of pre-packaged meals.

SENSA has also been featured widely in the media, because it is such a unique new product. Users of SENSA receive a package containing lots of different types of sprinkles. There are savoury flavours such as onion and parmesan cheese and sweet ones such as bananas and chocolate. Users don’t have to follow a specific diet, but simply have to sprinkle these flakes over anything that they eat. The theory is that the flakes fool your brain through sense of smell into thinking that it is full, leading you to consume fewer calories. Unfortunately, the lack of diet plan and the lack of any corroborating science raises some major red flags about this diet. Most experts still recommend that you stick to a low-calorie diet and do some exercise if you want to lose weight – there really is no magic fix.

Men who are on a diet need different nutrition to women who are on a diet. In addition to eating the right type of food, men also need to be more aware of their portion control – good food will benefit their wellness and wellbeing but will not actually help them lose weight unless they only eat a little bit of it!

The portion control meal plan is a diet that is currently sweeping the country, with men seeing some dramatic results. The meal plan was devised by a celebrity personal trainer, and focuses on eating five small meals every day, ensuring that the men who try the diet do not have to go hungry or feel that they are starving themselves, but can still reach their weight-loss goals.

The Monday plan starts with breakfast, which is a slice of rye bread with two tablespoons of peanut butter on top. A mid-morning snack comes in the form of an avocado, which is packed with healthy fats and protein. Lunch is a turkey breast with new potatoes (a small amount) and mange tout. In the middle of the afternoon, a pear and a handful of Brazil nuts should keep the food cravings at bay and boost the body with healthy vitamins and selenium. Dinner is a chicken stir fry made from one chicken breast, bean sprouts, mixed veg and brown basmati rice.

As you can see from this example, the meal plan is low carb and low-fat, and totals at around 1,600 calories for the first day. Tuesday follows a very similar pattern, starting with a bowl of no-added sugar muesli topped with low-fat yoghurt. An innocent smoothie is allowed mid morning, followed by lunch of a chicken breast with a baked sweet potato and a salad of lettuce, tomato and red onion. The afternoon snack is a punnet of blackberries with low-fat yoghurt, and dinner is a grilled salmon steak with spinach, basmati rice and bean sprouts.

The week continues in the same vein, with low-fat meats, healthy fruit and veg and very little in the way of carbs. Men find that the variety and low-calorie nature of the diet allows them to lose weight quickly and healthily.

It’s disappointing when you embark on a weight loss plan but don’t see the results you were hoping for. You’re putting in all that effort, but when there are no visible improvements to your wellness, you can want to pack it all in and console yourself with cake. However, you may not be accounting for a hidden element in your lifestyle that might be secretly ruining your diet plans; stress. Stress plays a tremendous role in your wellbeing, and there are four major ways in which letting stress rule your lifestyle can hinder your weight loss progress.

1. Cortisol: AFLCA certified personal trainer Shannon Clark, who has a degree in Exercise Science, explains, ‘Cortisol is a particular hormone that will cause you to have a much greater risk of storing abdominal fat…In addition, when there is a high amount of stress moving through the body on a day to day basis, this is also going to increase the level of lean muscle mass breakdown that can occur, slowing your metabolism down as a result. The less lean muscle mass you have, the harder it’s going to be to stay lean over time. Finally, when you’re highly stressed out and cortisol is running through your system, you’ll also be far more likely to retain excess water, which can mask weight loss progress.’

2. Food Control: According to Clark, ‘If you’re highly stressed out, you won’t have as much control over your food intake as you would if you were calm and collected. Stress eating is a big issue for many people and most don’t need to be told the impact this will have on their level of progress. If you’re regularly turning to carb-dense, calorie-dense foods to sooth the emotions that you’re feeling, you know that you’re headed for trouble on your diet plan. Stress and food consumption go hand in hand for many people and will make sticking with that reduced calorie diet feel like mission impossible.’

3. Energy: ‘If you’re feeling very stressed out on a day to day basis, your energy level will be plummeting rapidly,’ says Clark. ‘You’ll find that you feel burnout, worn out both physically and emotionally, and the last thing that you feel like doing will be getting a workout in. Stress has a way of zapping the life out of most people and making you just want to curl up on the couch for hours. If you’re incredibly stressed out, this is something that you need to be assessing. If it’s draining you of your energy level, you need to find a better way to combat stress both for fat loss purposes, but also so that you can maintain better health and overall function as well.’

4. Adrenal Glands: Clark notes, ‘Your adrenal glands are the master regulators of the body and are going to control your hormones, your metabolic rate, along with many other actions of other organs in the body. Stress also wears out the adrenal glands because it causes them to over-secret adrenaline, which is the flight or fight hormone. In times of severe stress, this hormone is a good thing, but when it’s chronically being released, it’s not such a good thing. That’s when your adrenal glands may in fact burn out entirely and when they do, you’ll have an endless amount of fatigue to be dealing with on a day to day basis.’

5. Recovery: ‘If you’re very stressed out on a regular basis, you won’t recover nearly as quickly from your workouts as you should be and therefore will need to spend far more downtime in the gym between your sessions,’ Clark warns. ‘The less frequently you can be doing your workout sessions, the less progress you’ll make towards your end goal – therefore this is a significant hindrance of success.’

They say that your wedding day is the best day of your life, so surely you want to look the peak of wellness and wellbeing. Many brides choose to lose weight for the big day, if only because knowing that everyone you know is going to be watching you walk down the aisle is great motivation! However, once you say “I do” you relax and start to regain all that weight you made the effort to lose in the first place. If you ever look at your wedding dress and wonder if you’d ever be able to fit back into it again, why not learn from a few success stories from people who have done exactly that? These brides (and one groom) followed a wedding dress weight loss plan that consisted of a diet developed by nutritionist and registered dietician Stephanie Middleberg and weekly exercise videos with dedicated personal trainer, Angela Salveo, to get back down to their wedding-day weight. Let’s see how they got on.

1. Rita Cookson: Rita, 43, has been married five years, and managed to lose 29lbs in four months. She asserts, ‘If I can do it, anyone can—I’m a pastry chef! Last year at this time, I felt depressed, tired, and generally gross about myself. I am a completely different person today. I stopped eating all those extra cupcakes and cookies, plus I’ve been doing four fun cardio classes per week at Gold’s Gym, in addition to meeting with a trainer there twice a week. I was afraid of lifting heavy weights because I thought I’d bulk up, but I got leaner and feel amazing.’

2. Lindsay & Brendan: Both aged 35, Lindsay Michalcik and Brendan Rineer decided to take up the weight loss challenge together and have been married eight years. ‘Figuring out how to fit in exercise was key,’ says Lindsay, who lost 18lbs. ‘I do a workout DVD before work a few mornings each week, and Brendan and I have a standing gym date on Saturday and Sunday mornings. We completely changed our eating habits too. Now we stick to one serving of protein each and load up on veggies, not carbs. We’ll still take the kids to Chuck E. Cheese’s, but we bring our own snacks or eat from the salad bar.’ Brendan, who lost 23lbs, adds, ‘Lindsay and I were able to learn healthier habits from each other. Before the challenge, I’d drink 32 ounces of Dr Pepper or Coke a day. Once I cut out soda, I immediately had more energy to work out. When I started, I said my goal was to develop a six-pack, but that’s just a bonus. My five-year-old daughter likes to count the “bumps” on my stomach.’

3. Jeanell Boomer: 36-year-old Jeanell has been married 10 years. She details, ‘I’m down 14 pounds. I’m not back in my dress because it took me a while to get a handle on my eating habits. For example, I’d tell myself I had to eat things that weren’t good for me because my family expected me to cook and bake certain foods—with no shortage of butter or oil. After I stopped the rationalising, the weight started to come off. And it’s true what they say: Once you lose the first 10 pounds, you really gain momentum. I lost three more the week after this photo was taken.’

4. Heather Wells: It’s nine years since Heather walked down the aisle, but the 42-year-old managed to lose six pounds and get back in that dress. She recalls, ‘When I joined the challenge, I knew I needed to start working out, so I walked and did the Wii Fit at home. But my body didn’t begin to change until I upped the intensity. Once I started taking spin classes and following the workout on Jillian Michaels’s 30 Day Shred DVD, I started to see a difference. I lost four inches off my waist and hips, and two and a half inches off my thighs. I’m fitting into clothes that are three sizes smaller, and I’m still going. I never thought I’d say this, but if I skip a workout, I miss it!’

If your New Year’s Resolution is to lose weight, increase your fitness and improve your general wellness and wellbeing, you’ve come to the right place. We’ve got easy and yet very effective methods that you can use to start shedding those pounds.

First of all, if you must snack, snack the smart way. You don’t have to avoid snacking altogether, but if you choose healthier things to snack on, you can feel satisfied and still lose weight. For example, a snack that includes just 100 calories is six whole cups of SmartPop by Orville Redenbacher – the equivalent to just 14 almonds.

If you have a sweet tooth, stay away from sweets and treats and instead snack on fruit.

The next thing you can do to ensure that you lose weight and keep it off is to have fun when you are working out. Very few people actually enjoy working out, but you can turn it into a game and have fun. Identify the physical activities that you really enjoy doing, and then you are more likely to be consistent with your physical exercise, and more motivated to integrate it into your daily life.

For example, if you love to dance, enrol in a dance class and sweat the fat off your body. If you love outdoor sports, take some skiing lessons on a dry slope, and book a holiday somewhere fabulous for when you get up to speed.

A great tip is to avoid soda altogether. If you drink sugary drinks, you take in hundreds of unnecessary extra calories every day. Two cans of fizzy pop can contain 300 or more calories. If you do nothing else, replace these sugary drinks with plain water and you will lose 10 pounds in around 16 weeks without making any other real changes. Water is also great for cleaning you, suppressing your appetite and boosting your metabolism.

They may be called love handles, but nobody really loves them. If you walk into any gym up and down the country, you will find that a bigger priority than general wellness and wellbeing is often to lose those pesky love handles, and this can be achieved through weight loss and fitness, but it is a tricky task.

Love handles is a name used for the deposits of extra fat that sit around either side of your abdomen. They can seem very tricky to get rid of, but there is hope if you follow these exercises. These can be done individually or (for best results) in a circuit, one following the other and then a rest in between circuits.

The first move is a ‘bicycle’ move, and to do this you need to lie on your back with your legs up in the air at a 90-degree angle. Put your hands behind your head, and then reach your right elbow to your left outer thigh (diagonally opposite. Then do the same with the other elbow and outer thigh. Repeat this 20 times. You should feel a strong burning feeling.

Russian twists are also great for love handles. Do this by sitting on the floor and then lowering your upper body so that you are only balancing on your bum. Lift your legs up and then bring your hands to your hips. Do around 15 to 20 reps of this.

Mountain climbers are also really useful for trimming off those love handles. Start in a push up position. Keep your back totally flat and then bring your right knee into your chest. Then do the same with your left knee. Do this for 30 seconds, alternating knees each time.

If you do all of this, and mix in a good bit of cardio, you can wave goodbye to those love handles once and for all.

Everyone likes a drink now and then, so ditching drinking in favour of your weight loss wellness can make you jack in your diet altogether. According to personal chef Diane Henderiks, RD, founder of Dish with Diane, your liver processes alcohol before other it does any other carbs and protein, meaning that the sheer presence of alcohol in your body slows down your fat-burning ability. Your wellbeing won’t be ruined if you have stick to one drink a day (that’s five ounces of wine, 12 ounces beer, or one ounce of a spirit) but if you want to drink AND lose weight, you might need to develop a few of the following healthy habits as well:

1. Chill Out: Cortisol is the hormone that encourages your body to store fat—particularly in your abdominal region – and anxiety causes cortisol to be produced in spades. It has been shown that deep-breathing exercises help to lower your stress levels, so pause for some deep-breathing time every hour. Set an hourly alarm on your phone and, when it goes off, take five to 10 deep-belly breaths, inhaling for five counts and exhaling for 10 counts.

2. Eat Enough: This is good advice for anyone wanting to lose weight, regardless of whether you ditch the drinks or not. When you don’t eat enough food to satisfy your body, it goes into starvations mode, Henderiks warns. This means that, out of fear of not being fed, your body will store extra fat for energy, rather than burning it off and keeping your belly taut.

3. Keep Up Your Strength: The more muscle you have, the faster your metabolism is and the more calories you burn all day long. This is because muscle is more metabolically active than fat, and exercise physiologist Tom Holland, author of Beat the Gym: Personal Trainer Secrets Without the Personal Trainer Price Tag, asserts that you need to do two to three total-body strength sessions a week in order to build that quality lean muscle.

4. Eat Wholegrains: In a study from PennsylvaniaStateUniversity, it was found that eating wholegrains instead of refined grains helps you lose more fat around your midsection. Moreover, researchers at Tufts University have reported that including three servings of whole grains and less than one serving of refined carbs in their diets every day helped participants lose 10% more visceral fat than those who didn’t follow this diet.

5. Work Your Abs from All Angles…: Celebrity trainer Gunnar Peterson, who works with Sofia Vergara, Kim Kardashian, and Vanessa Lachey, points out that there are three planes of motion you need to target when working on your abs. To challenge and define your ab muscles, you need to hit your sagitall plane (front to back and up and down) with crunches and reverse crunches; your frontal movement (side-to-side) with standing side bends; and transverse action (rotational) with chops or twists.

6….But Don’t Overdo the Ab Work: While you need to do ab-specific moves to tone your tummy, Holland asserts that these are the “finishing moves” once you’ve removed excess fat via diet and exercise. The majority of your workout should be focused on the rest of your body, and only 10% of your time should be dedicated to abs work. For the other 90% of your workout, focus on strength training and/or cardio.

7. Drink More…Green Tea: There is a whole heap of studies show to show that green tea deals with belly fat. This is due to an antioxidant called EGCG which helps boost metabolism and may specifically target abdominal fat.

Losing weight is always hard, but when you have 50 pound or more to lose, it can seem like an impossible task. Losing that amount of weight is going to take a great deal of determination and fitness, but you will find that your wellness and wellbeing are boosted in ways that you can’t even imagine now if this weight comes off.

To accomplish such a big goal, you need to stay motivated and not veer of track. You must consume a low calorie diet as much as possible and not only should your food be low calorie, it should also be healthy. You should supplement this with lots and lots of exercise. There are certain exercise tips that should help you to fuel your weight loss efforts, and the first one is a big one but a very important one.

You should exercise for 45 minutes at a time, if you really want to kick your weight loss up a gear. It really is annoyingly simple – you have to burn more calories than you consume if you want to lose weight. Taking a leisurely stroll on a treadmill is not going to help you because you will not burn enough calories to make a difference. In order to really lose weight you need to burn around 500 extra calories every day. If you only burn around 200 calories in your workout, your weight loss will be far slower. So, if you really want to lose weight, don’t stop at 20 or 30 minutes on the machines – keep going until you have been going for around 45 minutes. This way you will burn almost twice the number of calories and you will also tone up muscles and boost your metabolism.

People store weight in different ways, and so it’s vital that you tailor your fitness regime to match the areas that you would like to tone up. Carrying too much fat anywhere is bad for your wellness, as your wellbeing can be at risk from things like diabetes and heart disease.

If you are trying to lose weight, a goal of one or two pounds per week is a reasonable amount to lose – it might not sound like much but it means that in just 30 days you should lose around four to eight pounds. Losing leg fat, specifically, involves following a healthy eating plan as well as doing cardiovascular workouts as well as leg-toning exercises.

It’s easy to cut calories out of your diet if you simply eliminate fatty and sugary foods from your diet. You can also measure out your portion sizes to make sure that you are not overeating. In general, it is a good idea to eat fresh, healthy foods such as whole grains, lean proteins, fruit and vegetables. Lean proteins include things like fish and poultry.

The first step to losing weight is to increase your physical activity to burn calories – you should do around 30 to 60 minutes of exercise five days a week and rest on the other days. Cardiovascular exercise speeds up your metabolism and the rate at which you burn fat, and is far more effective than simply dieting on its own. It can vary too, and includes things like running, hiking, rollerblading and bicycling.

In terms of toning up your legs, squats can’t be beaten for their efficacy. Doing squats two or three days a week over the course of a month will lead to visible results. Lunges are also excellent, as they help to tone up the thighs. To do a squat, simply stand with your legs a little wider than hip-width apart and then bend at the knees, shifting the weight into your bottom as if you are about to sit down. Make sure that your knees don’t extend over your toes, and then stand back up again.

Obesity isn’t a just a people problem; dogs are getting fatter too. While shocking statistics reveal that 53% of dogs in the United States suffer from obesity – according to the Association  for Pet Obesity Prevention – what’s more concerning is that 22% of dog owners characterized their pet as normal weight when they were actually obese. Your furry little friend is counting on you to take care of his weight wellness. Otherwise, you could be putting his wellbeing at risk for other illnesses such as diabetes, high blood pressure and arthritis. So how can you help keep your dog’s weight in check?

1. Be realistic: Setting a reasonable goal is the primary step in helping your pup shed a few pounds. You don’t want to overwork your dog or overdo his diet. Therefore, you need to consult a vet about the most compassionate and caring when plan for your canine, determining how much weight your pet needs to lose to achieve a healthy weight and a moderate, patient way in which to get there. These things take time, so don’t rush it.

2. Try to squeeze in a little exercise every day: Exercising is one of the most effective ways to lose weight, whether you’re person or pooch, so try to get your dog moving every day. Taking him for a daily brisk walk will work wonders for the both of you. The PPET (People and Pets Exercising Together) Study showed that working out with your dog enables you to stick with your diet plan better than non-dog owners. Just remember to gradually build up the routine. Once your dog is comfortable with a brisk walk, go for a quick jog or play a game of fetch in the park.

3. Get him to eat little and often: Portion control is vital to helping dogs lose weight, but how do you know how much your dog should actually be eating? It’s easy to overfeed your pet, so take pains to check your dog’s food package for the proper amount suggested, and feed him on the lower end of that suggested amount. In 2002, researchers at the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine found that a calorie-restricted diet helped canines to live nearly two years longer than dogs consuming additional calories. The best thing to do is divvy up your dog’s daily calorie needs into smaller portions – just like eating little and often is recommended for humans who want to lose weight. Feeding your dog at least every 12 hours improves his digestion, and also makes him less likely to binge during one big meal.

4. Choose the right foods: It’s not just how much you give your dog and when, but the kinds of foods that are the solution to your canine’s weight loss journey. Again, look on the label of your dog food package – what order are the ingredients in? The earlier the ingredient is listed, the more of it there is in the dog’s food, and so you should be seeing high-quality ingredients at the top of the list. Dehydrated dry foods are often bad examples of this, and your pet will find fresh proteins, carbohydrates and fat sources to be more energetically useful to. To dilute your pet’s calories and add more fibre, add steamed or pureed vegetables such as broccoli or carrots to his packaged meal.

5. Give him fewer treats: You love your dog and want to show him how much, but giving him treats is a bad way to do it. Those tiny snacks can really add up in the calorie department, and so you’re doing your pooch no favours. Don’t let treats equal more than 10% of your dog’s daily calories, unless you’re dishing out healthful treats such as fresh fruits or vegetables. Carrots, cucumbers, green beans and apples are all good choices.

Trying to lose weight is hard. No-one would deny that fact, and yet so many people want to lose weight, so why is it that so many simply find it impossible to do? Are the difficulties simply too much of a challenge for most people? Sometimes it seems that some people are destined to fail in their attempts at weight loss. Part of the problem is that it is easy to make mistakes during this difficult time and those mistakes often add up to a sum of real damage to your prospects of slimming down. So if you struggle in losing weight, it’s worth taking a look at our list of top ten mistakes to avoid if you’re trying to drop the pounds.

1. Fad diets

There are so many diets out there that it can be very hard to know which one is the right one for you. Part of the problem is that so many of them are so-called ‘fad’ diets, which are designed to sound like a good idea and produce fast results, but almost always are unsustainable in the long term. The problem is that losing weight is something that needs to take time for it to work forever. So avoid fad diets that promise too much and seem too good to be true.

2. Skipping meals or eating only once a day

Research has shown that simply trying to cut out meals from your diet is not an effective way to lose weight. Firstly, it is unsustainable, but secondly because it reduces the speed of your metabolism which is actually bad for you in the long term.

3. Dieting with no exercise

Many people think that you can lose weight without actually doing any exercise. This is incorrect and if you want to slim down it’s not enough to rely on your diet, you need to actually get active in order to drop the pounds.

4. Only using cardio to lose weight

Cardio exercise is important, but using it alongside weight lifting and other forms of exercising is the most effective way of getting rid of unwanted fat. Weight lifting even helps to improve your metabolism.

5. Trying too hard at the start

It is very important that you take it slow at the beginning and don’t try to force yourself to do too much too quickly. This is simply an unrealistic thing to attempt and you will end up failing because you will be putting too much pressure on yourself. Start with easy targets and progress upwards.

6. The wrong weights

If you’re weight lifting it is important to use the right level of weight. If you’re not lifting heavy enough weights you won’t see the benefits, while too much might make you not finish your sets or hurt yourself.

7. Avoid using momentum

Don’t swing parts of your body in order to give yourself momentum to perform the lift. At best, this is stopping you from getting the benefit from the exercise. At worst it can actually injure you.

8. Lack of research

If you want to lose weight it is important to do the proper research. This can include anything from reading books to going to the doctors.

9. Overeating

Overeating is a big problem if you’re exercising a lot, but it is something that you really need to avoid otherwise you’ll have real trouble.

10. Not enough water

Make sure that you drink plenty of water, it’s the best way to hydrate and it helps you feeling good. It can even help you feel more full up.

Are you trying to lose weight but are tired of doing the same thing? If so, then you will be happy to know that there are several other things that you can do to lose weight. Below are some unique weight loss tricks:

If you have been struggling to lose weight on your own, then you should definitely consider attending a weight loss camp. You will get a customized plan if you attend a weight loss camp. You will also have the opportunity to meet new friends. Live In Fitness is a very popular weight loss camp.

Drinking herbal teas, yoga, cycling, eating slower and keeping a food journal are some of the unique things that you can do to lose weight. You may also want to consider attending a weight loss camp.

We all have different reasons for wanting to lose weight. Some of us just want to fit into that new dress while others what to enhance our overall wellness. Taking the first step in determining which programme to follow and which goals to set is probably the easiest thing to do in terms of effort, but this can still be a complicated step to take. At the end of the day, you are responsible for your own wellbeing, and the weight loss plan you eventually choose is, evidently, up to you. However, there are helpful hints available to shape the way you make that decision.

1. Acceptance and Reason: On an emotional and mental level, acceptance and reason are the hardest stages to overcome, and they often go hand in hand. If you’re overweight, say, this probably means your health is deteriorating. This usually goes alongside high levels of bad LDL cholesterol and high blood pressure. In this example, you need to accept that your current condition of health is due to your excess weight, and then this becomes your reason to lose weight: your immediate concern is to get to a healthy weight so that your wellness improves. As I’ve previously mentioned, everyone needs their own reason or driving force to help them achieve their personal weight loss goals – you just need to be true to yours.

2. A Clinical Perspective: If you’re planning on losing weight, that’s obviously going to have an impact on your health and body and so it’s extremely advisable to consult your doctor. In weight-related conditions, cardiologists and nutritionists are the go-to experts so start there. These medical health professionals can help you set your goals and decide upon the course of your weight loss journey without coming into conflict with your individual needs. If you have medical conditions or unchangeable lifestyle traits, for example, this will determine ultimately what you can and cannot do.

3. The Objective: Once you have your reasons and medical perspective in place, it’s time for you to actually engage in your weight loss and set a goal. This needs to be something specific and that you can reasonably attain. While setting a big end goal – like losing 40lbs overall – is a good idea, setting little objectives or check points along the way can help you to stay motivated. If you say you want to lose 10lbs a month, then all you have to do is focus on that one small goal instead of striving for the big one. Before you know it, in four months time you would have reached your 40lb goal without stressing 40lbs worth over it! Make sure all your goals – both big and small – are realistic. However, when you lose weight, you might find the number on the scale doesn’t move much as muscle weighs more than fat, so you might want to use a different measuring system like clothes sizes, BMI or waist size.

4. The Plan: Most dieters try to lose weight by just changing their food intake, or just by exercising, but the truth is you need both for effective weight loss. When it comes to what you eat, you need to consume enough calories to sustain your daily needs which, as you’re engaging in physical activities, will be a little bit more than you think. Dividing your daily food intake into frequent small meals rather than three large meals is a good idea. Eat fruits and vegetables, lean meat, dairy products, rice/cereals/bread, even chocolates – the key is to not deprive yourself but let yourself have a little bit so that you don’t crave more later on.

While one’s weight is regulated by hundreds of systems within the human body, there are a few key concepts when it comes to weight loss. This includes improved metabolism, reducing appetite in a healthy manner, increasing energy, and increasing the burning of calories. While losing weight naturally is often a slow and hard process, there are many products that advertise that they can help people to lose weight in an instant with no work. The problem is that many of these products do not work or they can have extreme side effects that can destroy your overall health. Here are five of the most popular and effective products that have been put at the forefront of weight loss, and that actually work.

1. Fruit-Based Cleanses

A detox or cleanse is typically seen as one of the first steps to weight loss in order to remove the huge amounts of lingering toxins that can fill up in the body. A cleanse typically utilizes fresh fruits, vegetables, juices, and a hand full of other supplements in order to allow the body’s chemical balance and metabolism to “reset” and start weight loss on the right foot.

2. Vitamin D

Vitamin D is a powerful tool when it comes to weight loss for two reasons. First, it allows cells to become more sensitive to insulin, which will in turn affect how many calories are absorbed and needed throughout the day. It may also have affect on leptin levels, which is a hormone that triggers the brain to stop eating. Vitamin D supplements are easy to find in any grocery or drug store.

3. Protein Meal Replacements

Protein is often seen as a supplement that is needed for increased muscle strength, but it has a dramatic effect on one’s metabolism. Protein-based meal replacement products from NaturesSunshine.com will improve bone and muscle strength while curbing one’s appetite for long periods. Protein will also help to keep your energized throughout the day, unlike carbohydrates while will be burnt quickly and leave you without energy a short time after they are processed.

4. Calcium

While an abundance of dairy products can result in weight gain, calcium supplements remain an excellent option for shedding pounds. Calcium that is stored in fat cells reduces the amount of fat that is stored in these cells and improves the body’s ability to break down fat as it is consumed.

5. Green Tea Extract

Green tea has long been one of the most popular health foods in the world due to ingredients such as antioxidants, but the extract is now being used as a powerful weight loss tool. The leading ingredients in green tea extract are theanine, caffeine, and catechins, and these have each been show in some studies to cut down on belly fats, reduce LDL in the body, and improve one’s circulation and metabolism.

By focusing on natural products and supplements, anyone can be sure that they are losing weight in a healthy manner. In addition to being extremely effective, this may also help to keep the weight off permanently without dramatic fluctuations.

People are often told that there is no easy way to lose weight, and to a certain extent that is true. To truly lose weight and keep it off, you need to focus on your wellness and wellbeing through improved diet, and improved fitness.

That does not mean, however, that there are not tricks that you can employ when dieting to help you shed the pounds faster. There are certain corners that you can cut and certain little well-kept secrets that you can take advantage of to help you keep on track with your weight loss.

The first one is to reduce the size of your dishes. It’s easy to say reduce portions, but if you have a tiny little bit of food on an enormous plate, you are going to feel hard done by. In addition to this, plate sizes have actually increased in recent years, leading people to pile their plate high with food and eat larger portions than they would otherwise. When reaching for a plate to dish up on, find something a bit smaller, such as a side plate, and steer clear of enormous dinner plates or huge pasta bowls. You can even buy a cheap set of ‘downsized’ dinner plates. Using a smaller knife and fork can also help to trick you into thinking that you are eating more than you are.

Another trick is to switch to drinking sugar-free drinks or even water. Many people consume hundreds of empty calories every day in the form of sugary drinks, without even realising it. These calories don’t even do anything to make your hunger go away, so they are absolutely pointless and are just making your weight loss an uphill battle.

Finally, in whatever exercise you do, go for the gold medal. Push it up one more notch, and take note of how good you feel. If you normally walk, then try power walking. You could even add in a bit of a jog. If you are already quite active, vary the exercise that you are doing to tone new muscles and add some interest and intensity.

It seems that almost everyone wants to lose some weight. It’s one of those goals that seem to be a part of everyone’s lives, always hanging around even if they have not achieved it yet. Part of the problem is that sometimes people are able to lose weight, but they aren’t able to do it in a way that is sustainable as part of their lifestyle. In fact, many people find that they can only lose weight if they do it in an unhealthy way, and this is never a good thing. If you want to drop a few pounds you need to do in a way that you’ll be able to continue to do for a number of years, otherwise you’ll find yourself slipping into old habits and putting back on the weight that you worked so hard to lose.

That would be a very demoralising thing to happen, so it’s important you don’t try to follow this path and instead choose a way of losing weight that is both good for your body and that you’ll be able to carry on even when the going gets tough (as it naturally does when you’re trying to do something as difficult as losing weight). Here are some of our top tips for losing weight in a manner that you’ll be able to keep up and won’t negatively affect your health.

The first good idea is to tightly control your portion sizes. Too many people focus on what they are eating when really you also need to think about how much you’re eating. All foods are fine to eat as long as they are eaten in moderation – there’s no trouble having the occasional pizza, as long as the majority of the time you’re eating healthy nutritious meals with balanced minerals and vitamins. But when you have that pizza, instead of eating, for example, six slices, have three instead and fill yourself up with some healthy goods such as salads.

Another great idea is to regularly buy fat-free food instead of relying on the traditional stuff that you generally eat. This is a great way for you to continue eating the foods that you love while still reducing your intake of fat and calories. Eating fat free means you can have more of the things that you like while still being able to stay healthy.

Let’s also think about the changes you’ll need to make in your lifestyle if you’re going to lose weight. Obviously everyone knows that exercise is good for you, but beyond that do we really think about the specifics of what we need to do if we’re going to lose weight? Well, one of the best ideas is definitely to do some exercise in the morning. In the morning we can boost our metabolism more easily and therefore it is a better time to burn the calories off. Alongside this, it’s important that you get some cardio exercise involved in this routine. That’s always going to be the best way to drop the weight.

Another great tip is that when you feel hungry, instead of eating something, you should drink some water. This is a very smart move as the water fills your stomach up and helps you go longer in between meals. But perhaps the most important tip in terms of losing weight healthily is that you should always eat a healthy breakfast. Many people try to avoid eating breakfast, hoping it will ensure they lose weight more quickly, but this actually has the opposite effect and it has been shown you’re more likely to lose weight if you eat a healthy breakfast every day.

When you want to lose weight, the traditional methods such as following a calorie controlled diet and increasing your fitness can seem tedious. What you really want is to shed lot of pounds in the shortest possible amount of time. Advertisements for miracle diets do not help, as they seem to offer this possibility. In truth, though, if you want to lose weight but not lose your grasp on your wellness and wellbeing, the old methods really are the best.

Despite what the adverts may claim, it is often not possible and definitely not healthy to lost vast amounts of weight in a short period of time. These claims are often made on the back of marketing for dietary supplements or weight loss magazines, and people jump at the chance of getting rid of fat fast, and with very little effort.

Most experts agree, however, that fast weight loss is not healthy weight loss. Instead, they recommend that people should aim for a weight loss of around one or two pounds per week. Although this may not seem like a fast enough rate of weight loss, a steady loss of this size would see you being 24 pounds lighter in just 12 weeks – a far more realistic goal but impressive nevertheless.

When you try to lose a lot of weight very quickly, it’s often done through starvation methods. This is not sustainable for a long period of time, and if you try to keep going with it, you may start to regain weight or at least plateau. This can make you rebound into bad eating habits again.

Also, weight that is lost quickly very seldom stays off. If you lose weight fast you have not learned to change your long term eating habits and so as soon as you eat normally again, you find that the weight just comes back on even more easily than it went off.
