People store weight in different ways, and so it’s vital that you tailor your fitness regime to match the areas that you would like to tone up. Carrying too much fat anywhere is bad for your wellness, as your wellbeing can be at risk from things like diabetes and heart disease.

If you are trying to lose weight, a goal of one or two pounds per week is a reasonable amount to lose – it might not sound like much but it means that in just 30 days you should lose around four to eight pounds. Losing leg fat, specifically, involves following a healthy eating plan as well as doing cardiovascular workouts as well as leg-toning exercises.

It’s easy to cut calories out of your diet if you simply eliminate fatty and sugary foods from your diet. You can also measure out your portion sizes to make sure that you are not overeating. In general, it is a good idea to eat fresh, healthy foods such as whole grains, lean proteins, fruit and vegetables. Lean proteins include things like fish and poultry.

The first step to losing weight is to increase your physical activity to burn calories – you should do around 30 to 60 minutes of exercise five days a week and rest on the other days. Cardiovascular exercise speeds up your metabolism and the rate at which you burn fat, and is far more effective than simply dieting on its own. It can vary too, and includes things like running, hiking, rollerblading and bicycling.

In terms of toning up your legs, squats can’t be beaten for their efficacy. Doing squats two or three days a week over the course of a month will lead to visible results. Lunges are also excellent, as they help to tone up the thighs. To do a squat, simply stand with your legs a little wider than hip-width apart and then bend at the knees, shifting the weight into your bottom as if you are about to sit down. Make sure that your knees don’t extend over your toes, and then stand back up again.

If you’ve gained weight as a secondary school student or since you’ve gone to college,  there are many ways to change your lifestyle to see great weight loss results. To begin with, exercise is hugely important and doesn’t feature very prominently in most teens’ schedules. There are so many benefits though, not just to your weight – you’ll have an improved sense of wellbeing, lower risk of diabetes and stroke, and better cardiovascular health. Most people dread the thought of working up a sweat and building their heart rate up, but the benefits are so huge. Exercise can be as intense or slow paced as you want, depending on what you choose, but as long as you’re moving and your heart rate has quickened, anything goes – from jogging around the block to dancing in your living room! The best way to motivate yourself is to make your workout fun, so try different things out to see what you like. You can also make changes to your everyday routine such as using the stairs instead of the lift or walking to work and college. Get a friend involved and you’ll not only enjoy it more but you’ll also stay motivated to keep it up.

Where your diet is concerned, the best tip you can follow is to not go on a diet – in other words, diets that are designed to offer quick results usually fail. The best way to lose weight and be healthy at the same time is to simply cut down on the fatty and sugary foods, and replace them with healthy, homemade alternatives. Teens are notorious for eating fast food and unhealthy snacks, but these make it so much easier to gain weight. You are what you eat, so make your meals healthy and nutritious. Opt for healthy snacks such as homemade popcorn, yoghurt, pretzels and granola bars. Fruit and vegetables are also fantastic snack foods, offering a healthy boost of energy. Replace all of those cans of fizzy drink with water or the occasional glass of fruit juice, to give your body the hydration it needs without a constant supply of sugar. The body also needs protein, so make sure you get plenty of meat and dairy products, as well as peanut butter and legumes.

If you’re going out with friends, you don’t need to feel as though you can’t join in, but simply act in moderation. If you’re getting a pizza, try not to eat the whole thing – share with a friend or just eat a few slices and stop when you’re full. At the cinema, opt for the freshly made popcorn instead of the branded types that are laden with toffee. And you can treat yourself to an ice cream at the beach, just limit those visits to once a month rather than every week. Weight loss and a healthier lifestyle is simply about willpower, balance and forward-planning – once you have that covered, it’s easier than you think. If you’re unsure how to go about it, gather a great support group in the form of your family and friends who will ensure you stay motivated even when you don’t feel like it. Maintaining a healthy weight can do wonders for your self esteem and confidence, as well as ensuring that weight-related health concerns are reduced. Your GP can offer advice if you’re not sure how to go about changing your lifestyle – if you’re new to exercise and are making drastic diet changes, it may be useful to run it by them to make sure it’s safe.

Housework is a bore at the best of times, but when it comes to cleaning the trickier areas of the home, it can be daunting too. If you’re looking for some inexpensive ways to clean those stubborn parts of the home, from the showerhead and beyond, here are some tricks you’ll be eternally thankful for.

1 – Washing your fruit and veggies can be tiresome, especially if you buy in bulk. Put them in a clean sink topped up with water and a dash of white wine vinegar and let them soak for a minute or two to kill off the bacteria and leave your produce ready to eat in no time.

2 – You can magically remove floor cuffs easily with the use of WD-40 – this unknown household trick could save you plenty of time scrubbing the floors to no avail. Simply spray a little on the mark and scrub with a dry brush for a few minutes to lift the stain.

3 – For a clean shower head that’s free of limescale, mix 1/3 cup baking soda with a cup of white wine vinegar and put in a plastic storage bag. Place the bag carefully over the head of the shower and tie to the shower pipe, leaving for a couple of hours to let the solution break down the build-up. Be careful when putting the solution in the bag, as it’s a chemical reaction. Once it’s had time to sit, remove the bag and rinse the solution off the shower head.

4 – Got a spare sock and some white wine vinegar? If you have blinds which gather dust and can be tricky to clean properly, simply add a splash of vinegar to an old sock and place over your hand – you can now grip the bars of the blind carefully and slide the sock over the plastic to remove the grime and dust easily and effectively.

5 – If you’ve lost an earring behind the sofa or kitchen cupboard, don’t consider it lost forever. Simply tie the foot of a pair of tights over the end of your vacuum tube and switch it on – you’ll be able to suction it back up without losing it in the vacuum.

Many people know that they need to lose weight to benefit their wellness and well-being, but they struggle with exercise and eating salads. Losing weight simply by breathing in and out may sound like a dream come true, but it could be a real possibility if the Long Breath Diet turns out to actually work.

Miki Ryosuke, a former actor, claims that he has lost over two stone as well as five inches from his waist in just seven weeks, simply by following the Long Breath Diet. The 55 year old actor says that to follow the diet you simply have to spend just two minutes each day focusing on taking deep breaths and exhaling aggressively.

The guru for the new diet says that he invented it purely by accident whilst he was doing some breathing exercises to help him cope with some long-term back pain. Whilst doing these breathing exercises, he noticed that he was starting to lose weight without doing anything altogether. Following on from this, he drew up what is now known as the Long Breath Diet. This involves the dieter holding a specific body position and then inhaling for three seconds followed by exhaling strongly for seven seconds.

Ryosuke is confident that those who are carrying out these breathing exercises for two to five minutes every day will soon start to see the weight fall off them. This can be achieved by clenching the buttocks and then standing with one foot in front of the other, with most weight being on the back foot. Holding this position, the dieters should then inhale for three seconds and slowly raise their arms up above their head. Once they have done this, they then breathe out tensing all of their muscles at the same time for seven seconds.
