Everyone these days has heard of the G-spot, and yet many men have never witnessed a G-spot orgasm and women often scoff at the idea of one even existing. If you’re involved with a woman who feels this way about this mystical area of the body, you may both be converted by the concept of the G-shot. Scientists in the USA have found a way to increase a woman’s G-spot with a small injection, making it virtually impossible to miss during sex or foreplay. But how does it work and how much does it cost? The G-shot is a trademarked collagen injection which is intended to increase the size of a woman’s G-spot – it’s being touted as the next big thing. In fact, it’s becoming so popular that women are using their lunch break to drop in on their gynaecologist in America for this nifty treatment. The procedure takes around 30 minutes from start to finish, and will set you back around $1850 for the injection, which only requires local anaesthetic to take place.

Once you’ve had it done, the G-spot is supposed to increase to an amazing inch-wide diameter with a quarter-inch height. That’s pretty large when you consider that G-spots often go completely unnoticed due to their size. The results are immediate and sex is possible within as little as four hours after the procedure. So what are the benefits? The most obvious one is that having the G-spot enlarged to such a size means that it is practically impossible to miss during sex, so the amazing orgasms reported when it’s involved in sexual play are possible to women who have this procedure. Many women report that orgasms reached in conjunction with the G-shot are far better than normal orgasms, particularly where intensity and length of duration are concerned.

The G-shot is also said to increase libido in some women, increasing their sense of sensitivity and even arousal itself. Some women even feel as though the G-shot has revolutionised their sex life, which was considered frustrating beforehand. The results of this procedure last just four months though, so anyone looking to sustain these results would need to keep up with the injections. The man who invented the shot, Dr David Matlock, advertises that the procedure an 87 per cent success rate in terms of women who feel as though the treatment has revolutionised their sex life. His website is keen to state, though, that the G-shot is only intended for women who don’t currently suffer with a sexual dysfunction – it’s only meant as an enhancement rather than a cure for any problems they may have. If you cannot reach orgasms via a normal sexual routine, the G-shot is probably not going to make much difference. The same can be said of women with a low sex drive or a similar condition, as the G-shot is unlikely to increase your sex drive by any significant amount.

The G-shots primary purpose is to make the area large enough that it’s easy to find when you’re having sex with your partner. The testimonials for this treatment almost speak for themselves, but as with any procedure, you should speak to your GP before making any changes, particularly if you’re suffering with some form of sexual dysfunction. If you are, you may find it more beneficial seeking medication for your complaint as this may be more effective in improving your sex life.

How acquainted are you with your vagina? When it comes to sexual health, guys get an easier time of it – their junk is hanging out there, just waiting to be experienced. However, as a woman, most of your parts are internal, so you can’t exactly see what we’re working with. Nonetheless, the more you take control of your vaginal wellness, the better it will be for your sexual wellbeing. According to wellness writer Theresa O’Rourke, Editorial Director at Victoria’s Secret, in a ‘study published in the International Journal of Sexual Health, scientists found that women who had a positive view of their genitals were more comfortable in their skin, more apt to orgasm, and more likely to experiment in bed.’ So maybe it’s time that you got to know your vagina…

1. The Ins and Outs: O’Rourke explains, ‘If you’re standing naked in front of a full-length mirror, you’re actually seeing your vulva, the exterior portion of your privates, which was covered in hair before your aesthetician went hog wild with the wax and muslin. Think of your privates as an award-winning cast: You have your supporting actors (the vulva) and your marquee stars (the clitoris and G-spot). Every part is there to entertain your sexual needs, but to milk the best performance out of each one, you have to show them all a little love and attention.’ Debby Herbenick, PhD, a research scientist at Indiana University and the author of Because It Feels Good, notes, ‘Rubbing the pubic mound and outer lips readies the clitoris for stimulation.’

2. The Pleasure Centre:  Herbenick points out, ‘We see only the head of the clitoris.’ This pleasure centre actually has the shape of a wishbone, with two legs that reach three inches into your vagina, just under the pubic mound and straight into G-spot territory. Ian Kerner, PhD, author of She Comes First, asserts that this makes the clitoris ‘the powerhouse of the orgasm. It connects with every single structure in the genitals.’ In order to tap into that powerhouse, Herbenick recommends woman-on-top and a twist on missionary called the coital alignment technique, as this ‘creates more friction against the clitoris.’ However, Diana Hoppe, MD, author of Healthy Sex Drive, Healthy You, warns that as you head toward climax, ‘the clitoris swells in size, which can make friction painful.’ If this occurs, try lightening up the stimulation a bit, and it should feel good again.

3. What Lies Beneath: O’Rourke details, ‘The G-spot is a spongy area about the size of a nickel, and it’s located an inch or two into the anterior wall of the vagina, just under the pubic mound—and you’ve got to feel it to believe it. It has bumpy, knotty striations similar to a walnut, and it demands a hands-on, tough-love approach…G-spot stimulation also calls for a tag-team approach. You can hit it by having your guy enter you from behind, but the best bet is to have him go down on you with his tongue and fingers.’ Kerner comments, ‘The G-spot’s nerves are contained in fattier tissue, so you have to provide deeper, firmer pressure to stimulate it…With his mouth on your clitoris, have him use his fingers in a come-hither motion to apply firm, rhythmic pressure to the G-spot.’ If you’re worried you haven’t had a G-spot orgasm, don’t stress about it. Kerner points out, ‘Many women wouldn’t isolate it and say, “Wow, I just had a G-spot orgasm.” It’s more like, “I just had an orgasm, and what he was doing felt really good.” That’s why most vibrators come with a clitoral stimulator and a G-spot stimulator. They work in tandem to create what’s commonly referred to as a blended orgasm.’

Having sex outdoors may not be your idea of good sexual health and hygiene, but getting fresh while you’re getting fresh air can work wonders for your wellness. Sure, it doesn’t always work as well in real life as it does in the movies (think sand, sticks, insects), and not-so legal (not that we’re advocating doing anything illegal, of course) but, if you were to get the urge, there are benefits that outdoor sex can have to your wellbeing. Sexual anthropologist Dr Bella Ellwood-Clayton asserts, ‘Sex can become monotonous, particularly in long-term relationships. To induce fever into your sex life, get out of the bedroom. Even if you only make it as far as the living room floor, changing the routine makes you more sexually alert.’

That said, try not to get caught, especially by the police. Tracey Cox, author of Superhotsex, notes, ‘Anyone who’s ever had sex outside knows how hot it can be. Just be sensible and you’ll stay out of jail. Assess each situation carefully, stay fully clothed and use props to hide behind, such as a beach umbrella, sarong or picnic blanket.’ And if you’re on holiday, find out the country’s laws about “public relations” as some can be quite strict. Dr Ellwood-Clayton warns, ‘If you’re not aware of the country’s laws and customs, it’s dangerous to engage in behaviour some cultures may consider taboo. My advice? Confine outdoor sex to home soil.’ So, where are the best places to get busy back in Blighty?

1. Party in the Park: Very late in the day, head to the park and find a picnic table. Then, lay on the table while your partner stands in front, and wrap your legs around his waist. According to Tracey Cox, ‘It’s ideal because you’re facing one way, he’s facing the other way, so you can keep watch in both directions.’ Moreover, this position provides perfect stimulation for the A spot, or the smooth, highly sensitive area halfway between your G-spot and cervix.

2. Against a Wall or Tree: With your legs around his hips, wriggle up a large tree trunk or wall, pushing your back firmly against it for support. If you need to, put your arms around his neck and one foot on the ground. For this position, you need to be quick, which is why Jo-Anne Baker, founder of Pleasure Spot, advises using a strap-on butterfly-shaped vibrator to speed up your orgasm. She explains, ‘Obviously, it takes away from the spontaneity, but it’ll rev you up beforehand,’ and it can be easily worn under your clothes.

3. Getting Wet: As your partner sits on the edge of the spa or pool (by the steps), straddle him with your bikini bottoms pulled to the side. That way, you can pretend you’re cuddling or separate in seconds if anyone walks by. Baker directs, ‘Penetration should happen above the water, before you both submerge. This should avoid water used by others getting into the vagina, which could cause an infection.’ If you need to use lube, make sure it’s silicone-based so that it doesn’t wash away.

4. In the Car: Find a secluded spot to park up, and get your partner to scramble onto the backseat first. Emily Dubberley, author of Sex for Busy People, instructs, ‘Facing away from him, sit on his lap with your knees either side of his thighs and clutch the seats in front of you while you bounce up and down. This position lets you control the depth and speed of the thrusts.’ Dr Ellwood-Clayton points out, ‘The back seat is a great option for alfresco novices.’

Chances are, you’ve had a friend who said their most intense orgasms are a result of stimulating the G-spot. While you may be silently seething that you are yet to experience such an orgasm, you aren’t alone! Most women haven’t had such an experience, and most scientists doubt that the G-spot exists. Dr Edwin Huang, medical director of gynaecology at Boston’s Massachusetts General Hospital, explains, ‘There is not a lot of research on the existence of the G-spot, and so far anatomical studies have not found any evidence. There is not more nerve tissue concentrated in one area of the vagina than another.’

While the existence of the G-spot was discovered by a German scientist named Ernst Grafenberg in the 1950s, Beverly Whipple, a professor from the Rutgers University, New Jersey, has been credited for making the concept more popular many years later. Her study on 400 women, which she reported in her journal Beyond the G spot: New research on Human Female Sexual Anatomy and Physiology, revealed that the G-spot definitely existed. However, since then, her findings have been challenged by many.

Led by a study Dr Tim Spector, a professor of genetic epidemiology, researchers at King’s College London published a study in the Journal of Sexual Medicine which categorically stated that the G-spot is a myth. Spector commented, ‘Women may argue that having a G-spot is due to diet or exercise but in fact it is virtually impossible to find real traits. This is by far the biggest study ever carried out and it shows fairly conclusively that the idea of the G-spot is subjective.’ Another scientist who worked on the study, Andrea Burri, added that the misconception of the G-spot can be detrimental to your sexual wellness and emotional wellbeing, making you feel like you’re lacking or inadequate if you’re a man who can’t find it, or a woman whose G-spot can’t be found.

When it comes down to it, sexual health experts and conventional doctors would err on the side of doubting the existence of the G-spot. According to Dr Gedis Grudzinskas, a gynaecologist at London Bridge hospital, ‘This study will prove the difference between biological or anatomical science and popular science. This is why it is so important.’ Whether the G-spot is fact or fiction, there are loads of ways that you can experience earth-shattering orgasms. All you need to do is try experimenting with a few new techniques to see what works for you and your partner, and relax.
