Obesity causes all kinds of devastating effects on your wellness, from day-to-day struggles, mental wellbeing issues and serious, life-limiting diseases. Anything that can help to ward off obesity is welcomed by the medical community with open arms, and that’s why everyone is so interested in the research that has just been carried out by the Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine.

A group of researchers from the university worked alongside the Cleveland Clinic Foundation staff and some from Cornell University to find out what kind of beneficial properties vitamin E could offer. With some excitement, they discovered that vitamin E could alleviate the symptoms associated with liver disease that is connected to obesity issues.

These findings could have an enormous effect on the 63 million people across America who are at risk of developing liver disease related to obesity, never mind the rest of the world.

The results of the study were presented at the annual meeting for the American Society of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, held in Boston.

These findings, as is often the way with science, were discovered completely by accident, while the team were studying what kind of effect a deficiency of vitamin E would have on the nervous system. The team used liver tissue when practising their surgical techniques, and to their surprise they realised that the mice they were using in the study were suffering from a liver disease related to obesity. They then started to wonder what the connection was between vitamin E deficiency and liver disease related to obesity.

They then regulated the levels of vitamin E in the bodies of the mice, and observed the effects that this had on regulating the problems with the liver, and found that it did improve the condition.
