Diabetes on the whole is a chronic condition. It’s not something which you’re going to see the other end of, it’ll be with you until the end and whether it has a hand in bringing about that end is down to you. In all but the very worst cases, diabetes can be treated and lived with. It doesn’t have to destroy your life but to survive and prosper with diabetes, it will have to change it.

Type one diabetes is a bit of  a mystery in terms of its initial instigator, there are lots of theories and lots of factors which are thought to pull you towards the condition but as of yet there’s been nothing overly definitive. There’s no cure for type one diabetes as of yet and as such, if you’re unlucky enough to contract this condition then you’re going to be stuck with it for your whole life.
Type two diabetes is much more understood in terms of cause and effect, though not fully. We’re aware that the rising levels of obesity in the world have provoked an equal rise in the number of type two diabetics which there are. Being larger simply means that your levels of insulin resistance increase and make it harder for the insulin your body produces to effectively remove the sugar from your blood, causing the diabetes.

It’s possible to send type two diabetes into remission and even see it vanish completely, possible but not easy. Lots of studies have been done into this exact area and the same has been found in each of them. In groups who’re given intensive weight loss courses to complete around 10% will see their diabetes go into remission. This isn’t a huge percentage but when you consider all of the many benefits which such weight loss would bring to not only diabetes but to the patients’ wellness, it’s probably worth doing even if you don’t get rid of the disease entirely!
