She’s the box office Queen and she knows it. Actress Kangana Ranaut conquered Bollywood as Tanu and Datto in her latest film Tanu Weds Manu Returns, which has now collected Rs 100 crore worldwide, in a week.

Trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted:

#TanuWedsManuReturns crosses Rs 100 cr mark! Worldwide [India Overseas] total: Rs 101.67 cr. AWESOME!

This week’s top releases Welcome 2 Karachi starring Jackky Bhagnani and Arshad Warsi and Hollywood action drama film San Andreas couldn’t affect Tanu and Datto’s rule:

#TanuWedsManuReturns is unaffected by new films, continues its dominance. [Week 2] Fri 6.65 cr. Grand total: Rs 76.67 cr. BLOCKBUSTER.

Bollywood’s dry spell at the box office may finally end with the stupendous result yielded by Tanu Weds Manu Returns. Meanwhile, close at Tanu‘s heels is Piku. Starring Deepika Padukoen in titular role along with megastar Amitabh Bachchan and Irrfan Khan, the film’s success grew from the worth-of-mouth reviews. However, the film is yet to enter the Rs 100 crore club:

#Piku [Week 3] Fri 1.35 cr, Sat 2.40 cr, Sun 2.75 cr, Mon 92 lacs, Tue 85 lacs, Wed 84 lacs, Thu 75 lacs. Grand total: Rs 75.08 cr. SUPER HIT

Bollywood further has an impressive lineup in the coming months, which may (or may not) slow Tanu and Manu‘s pace. After the success of Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara, filmmaker Zoya Akhtar returns to the big screen, this Friday, with Dil Dhadakne Do, starring Anil Kapoor, Ranveer Singh, Priyanka Chopra, Anushka Sharma, Farhan Akhtar and Shefali Shah.

After the drama of a dysfunctional family, moviegoers will be treated to a love saga starring Vidya Balan and Emraan Hashmi, Hamari Adhuri Kahani. The Mohit Suri-directed film will release on June 12 and is loosely based on the life of filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt’s parents.

Soon after that, director Remo D’Souza will present the sequel to ABCD: Any Body Can Dance, titled ABCD 2, which features Varun Dhawan, Shraddha Kapoor and Prabhu Deva.

Hollywood too has ‘big’ plans for the Indian box office. Fantasy drama film Jurassic World, directed by Colin Trevorrow, will release on June 24. The film starring Chris Pratt and Irrfan Khan will once again take the dinosaur fans back to the Jurassic Park.

This Bollywood bottom line is a thing of beauty. The Aanand L Rai-directed Tanu Weds Manu Returns has collected the year’s first Rs 100 crores at the home box office, an incandescent spot in an otherwise gloomy 2015 which has been less about profit and more about loss.

Monday’s business took the film past the finish line. Trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted:

#TanuWedsManuReturns crosses Rs 100 cr in India. Emerges the HIGHEST GROSSER of 2015 BIGGEST HIT of 2015 [so far]. Note: Hindi films.

In a moment of pure Bollywood-like serendipity, the 100 crore day coincided with Tanu Weds Manu Returns‘ lead actor R Madhavan’s 45th birthday.

Tanu Weds Manu Returns stars Kangana Ranaut as both the female leads – the eponymous Tanu and her lookalike Datto – apart from Madhavan, Jimmy Sheirgill, Deepak Dobriyal and Swara Bhaskar.

The film had already made over Rs 100 crores worldwide last week, as have Deepika Padukone’s Piku and Akshay Kumar’s Gabbar Is Back.

Directed by Aanand L Rai, the film which is a sequel to the 2011 hit film, explores the ups and downs in the relationship of a married couple in a quirky way.

Bollywood films are once again ruling the box office after a lean spell. Aamir Khan’s PK, which released in China last Friday, has shattered box office records again to become the best performing Indian film abroad of all time. Dubbed in Chinese, the film opened in 4,600 screens across the country – one of the widest releases any Indian film has received abroad.

Meanwhile, Shoojit Sircar’s Piku continues to win hearts and is expected to cross Rs 70 crore this weekend.
