It may seem hard to believe, as you look out of the window at the rain lashing down yet again, but summer really is just around the corner. In no time, you’ll be packing away the big bulky sweaters and getting out the skimpy tops and, shock horror, the bikini.

There’s no point in starting your weight loss and fitness regime when the summer has already arrived – the time to do it is now, whilst you still have time to get in shape before shedding the layers. Not only that, but eating right and exercising is great for your wellness and wellbeing, which should help to get you through the winter months with the minimal amount of colds and coughs.

There’s no point in starving yourself though; research has shown time and time again that starvation-based diets end up having quite the opposite effect. If you try to follow a very restrictive diet you are likely to break down and start overeating, putting on more weight than ever before. Instead, try to make one small change every week, and by the time the summer comes you will find that you have naturally lost weight and also that you are following a cleaner, healthier diet, and enjoying all the associated benefits.

The first step should be to eliminate processed foods. These foods make you crave more food than your body actually needs, and are not good for you. Take a look at the ingredients list on the food that you eat. You should aim to buy foods that have minimal ingredients, and definitely don’t have long lists of things, including additives that you don’t know how to pronounce! Ideally, you should go for the sections of the supermarket that have no ingredients label at all, such as fresh meat, fruits and vegetables.

If you are looking to reduce your weight and increase your fitness, there are some great and very simple moves that you can incorporate into your workout to make things easier and to tone up in record time.

Doing some simple toning moves every day can help you to tighten up all over, and get a body that is ready for bikini season. These moves are fun and varied, and best of all boost your wellness and wellbeing without needing to resort to any expensive equipment. That means that you can do these moves regardless of where you are – be that in the office or even when you are travelling.

The first one is nicknamed the ‘bikini dance’ – and you start by kneeling on the mat with your knees around hip-width apart. You should sit up as tall as you can, with your hands on your hips and then start swaying your hips from side to side. This exercise targets your abs, obliques and quads. Repeat this exercise over and over again for around one minute and then do it again for a further minute with your arms raised above your head.

Next, try the flying seagull move. Start in the yoga child’s post with your shins on the mat and your chest hovering around above your quads. Spread your arms out to the sides and then lift your elbows up towards the ceiling, squeezing your shoulder blades and pinching them together. This works on your upper back and shoulders. Do this 20 times.

Finally, try the cross-legged bridge lift. To do this, lie on your back and start off in the bridge position, with your pelvis off the ground. Keep your right foot on the floor but cross your left ankle across your knee. Leave your foot flat. Now pulse your pelvis up and down towards the ceiling 20 times, before switching legs and trying the same thing again.

With summer finally here, or at least in the process of arriving, you can suddenly become all too aware that it’s time to dust off the old bikini. With a trip to a crowded beach looming, you need tips that can help you lose weight quickly, whilst looking out for your overall wellness. Luckily, here are five to get you started.

Firstly, take a (not-too-close) look at your urine. If it isn’t light, pale yellow and odourless, the chances are that you’re a little dehydrated. Hydration is massively important for your overall wellbeing, as well as in weight loss, because the first litre of water you consume in a day is solely used for brain function. Dehydrating drinks such as coffee and alcohol can ruin your energy levels and positive thinking, which can have a knock on effect on your weight. All you need to do to get back on track is to simply drink more water!

Next, switch to a diet that can get you in summer shape. Minimise your intake of sugar and simple carbohydrates, especially cereal and bread. Instead, load up on plenty of vegetables and fruit, as well as eating more lean meat, eggs and nuts. Unfortunately, if you want to look hot this summer, you can’t avoid exercise – but when you think about what it does for you, why would you want to? Exercise transforms your body, and increases your levels of the happy hormone serotonin. Not only does exercise boost your mood, as well as your weight loss efforts, but it will also give you plenty of energy.

Another tip to consider is getting help. Staying motivated and knowing exactly which weight loss regime will work for you is difficult to achieve on your own. Consider joining your local gym or getting a personal trainer to help you keep on track, or else exercise with a friend. Finally, while you’re working on your bikini body, get outside! The beautiful weather will give you an excuse to get out there and exercise, and you’ll boost your levels of vitamin D in the process just by getting the sun on your skin.
