Weight loss and fitness gadgets are the latest high-tech way to improve your wellness and wellbeing. With products from top fitness companies Fitbit, Jawbone and Nike, many people are now using wearable fitness products, clipped to their bras or underclothes. These track every move they make during the day, whether at work, running errands, in the bed or in the gym. The challenge is to get to 10,000 steps every day, and this often translates to direct results when stepping on the scales.

All fitness enthusiasts find themselves drawn to these types of products, eager to find out more about their daily fitness and even sleep routines. Trackers can be worn on the wrist, if you want to track it regularly throughout the day. The only downside to this idea is that sweat can make these devices itch and irritate the skin.

Nevertheless, the idea of trackers is often very appealing for people who are regularly active, and can serve as a great motivator to those who should be moving more in order to benefit their health. There is a school of thought that hypothesises that these devices will, in the future, be able to track health conditions in the elderly. The technology world is waiting with bated breath to find out exactly how these gadgets will be used in the future.

For example, it looks like wireless earbuds will soon be hitting the market. These will not only be able to allow you to listen to music without any need for wires, but they will also be able to track your heart rate when you are carrying out physical activities. When you are exercising, your target rate should be about 70 – 85 percent of your maximum heart rate, which varies according to your age.

The end of a relationship can take a big toll on your mental and emotional wellness and wellbeing. Whether or not it was you who instigated the breakup and whether you were expecting it or not, it is a very difficult time indeed. There are all kinds of ways to cope with a breakup and people respond in their own way. There are some things that you can think about and try, however, to help you get through the breakup with your health intact.

Firstly, don’t be afraid to cry. If you feel like crying – go for it. It’s totally normal and healthy to cry and you should never feel embarrassed by your natural instincts. If you can avoid it, try not to cry in public, as making a scene is never going to be good for you in the long term. This is especially important if you work, as your professional reputation is something that you have got to protect. If you need some time off, then don’t be afraid to take some time off, and curl up with a TV show, good book and a box of Kleenex – and cry it all out.

Next, you must stay away from the person who is on the other end of the breakup. As much as you might want to track him down and throw things at him, or track him down and beg him to take you back, in truth, you really need to keep your distance. You need to have some time to yourself to get your emotional reactions under control and to think things through. Many women especially become almost ‘stalkerish’ in their behaviour after someone has hurt them. Keeping a distance will not only help you to heal but will also show your ex other half how independent and capable you are, and that you can survive fine without them.

Has your sex life become dull and boring? Perhaps it’s fine, but just no sexual spark or energy happening in the bedroom. Whatever the problem is, rest assured that there are lots of different tips and tricks that you can try to help restore your sexual wellness and wellbeing.

Repetition is never a good thing when it comes to sex – don’t stick to the same old tried and tested methods in the bedroom. In fact, don’t stick to the bedroom at all. If you normally  make love in bed at night time, throw a curve ball and try out the kitchen, the living room, the bathroom, or even a fancy hotel room somewhere else altogether! With your bodies in a new space, things will feel different and sex will feel more exciting.

Doing something dangerous together as a couple can also help to reinvigorate your sexual energy. Do something like canoeing or hiking, as these stimulate the hormone dopamine in your brain, which makes you feel more sexual.

If that all sounds too outgoing and daring for you, then you could try staying home – with a big bag of black liquorice. Studies have recently shown that this seemingly innocuous sweet treat can actually increase blood flow to the genitals but around 40 percent.

When you do make it to the bedroom, don’t stick to the same old erogenous zones either – try new ones. The old classics are good – and work well as part of the finale – but try exploring a region that you have not visited in a while, such as the back of the neck. There are dozens of nerve endings on sensitive areas such as this, which can really vamp up the sexual excitement.

You can try all of the above suggestions or just the ones that suit you best, but you are sure to find that they bring the thrill back to your sex life in no time.

If you’ve struggled to lose weight and seem to have trouble sticking to a plan, these tips and tricks could help you shift those pesky pounds for successful weight loss. Although there is no foolproof plan for success, these are strategies which could really work for you.

Commit to change

The first step towards losing weight is to accept that you need to change your lifestyle – weight loss isn’t something which happens overnight, and it always requires dedication and willpower. Once you’ve made the commitment to losing weight, you can develop a plan and get started on it.

Keep your goals SMART

SMART stands for specific, measurable, achievable, realistic and track-able. For example, cutting out dairy, sugar, meat and carbs isn’t a realistic goal, nor is dropping four dress sizes in two months. But making achievable goals can help you stay on track, keep you motivated and help you to stay on track.

Watch your portions

Portion sizes are more important than you think – over the past few decades, they’ve grown significantly which makes us overeat without even noticing. Overeating with big portion sizes will absolutely sabotage your diet, so it helps to compare your food to everyday objects. For example, one slice of bread or a pancake is the size of a CD case, 1/2  cup of cooked rice or pasta is the size of a cupcake wrapper, and one medium apple is the size of a baseball.

Mix up your diet

It’s a good idea to update your diet and review your eating habits when you’re changing your lifestyle. Be more adventurous, try new foods and step outside of your comfort zones. If there are fruits you’ve not tried, give them a go – you may find that you love them and it can be another thing to add to your diet to make it more interesting. Mix up your breakfast by having low fat Greek yoghurt with chia seeds, honey and berries. Opt for quinoa instead of brown rice, or try Israeli couscous for a tasty snack or lunchtime option.

Fill up on fibre

High fibre foods will keep you fuller for longer, helping you to limit snacking and helping you to stave off overeating. These include fruit and vegetables, oatmeal, whole-wheat pasta and high fibre cereals, flax seeds and prunes.

Keep a food diary

Keeping a food diary can help you stay motivated and to track where your strengths and weaknesses lie. Studies suggest that daily diaries on your food intake can help people lose twice as much weight as those who didn’t keep track. Taking the time to jot down a few notes about what you’ve eaten throughout the day can help you monitor any areas where you need to improve, as well as to help you keep track of places where you’ve done really well. It helps you to make better health choices, as you’ll see it in black and white what has gone into your body throughout the week.

Move more

No weight loss programme will work without some exercise thrown in, so you need to up your physical activity. You don’t need to spend every waking minute in the gym to see results though – the key is variety. For example, if you do one intense gym session each week, perhaps mix it up throughout the rest of week with something lighter and more fun. Dance classes, aerobics or cycling are all great options. If you get bored, you’ll be less likely to stick with it, so find something you enjoy and then enable that to give you ideas for similar activities that you may like as well.
