When you jerk your neck a little harder than usual, it can be concerning. A neck injury has the potential to develop into whiplash, which can range from minor to serious. Here are some of the signs of whiplash along with ways to treat it.

Signs of Whiplash

The most common and obvious sign of whiplash is pain in the neck. This can be either a constant pain, or a pain when you move your neck along one of its axes. Likewise, the pain can be very moderate to very severe, with implications on how to manage the injury. The pain resulting from whiplash doesn’t have to emerge right away; it can take up to 48 hours for whiplash pain to settle in.

Another symptom of whiplash includes tenderness in the neck and spinal area. Jerking your head can produce a misalignment in the vertebrae, causing pain when you press down on a certain area of your neck. After any kind of neck trauma, it is wise to gently feel along the length of your neck to make sure that there are no sore spots. Other symptoms include neck stiffness, decreased range of motion, and headaches.

How to Treat Whiplash

The treatment for whiplash depends on how severe the trauma was. For minor injuries, you should simply let the neck heal itself. The area may be a bit stiff or painful for a few days, but then the problem should clear itself up. You can also add ice in order to soothe the discomfort that you feel during the healing process.

If pain is a big issue, you can consider taking some pain medications. Start with an over-the-counter medication, and consider taking something stronger if that doesn’t work. Your doctor can advise you on what’s appropriate to take in your situation.

For neck strains that are persistent or severe, medical attention is necessary. It’s possible that your case of whiplash is underlying a more severe injury. According to a personal injury lawyer in Alexandria, sprains and severe strains will require a neck brace and possibly other interventions to make sure that further damage is not done.

When you have a trauma to the neck, it can be hard to tell exactly how serious the injury is. Whiplash is usually not serious, however, and you will know if your injury needs further inspection. Trust your body to let you know what you need to do to feel better.

If you’ve ever seen When Harry Met Sally, you’ll know how easy it is for a woman to fake an orgasm – but did you know that it’s a tactic women take on a regular basis? In fact, 64% of women have pretended their sexual wellness was better than it was, and actually faked an orgasm. When you rock your partner’s world, it can be a major boost to your sense of sexual health and wellbeing, but, statistically speaking, it’s likely that you’re not rocking it as hard as you think you are. All the screaming, thrashing and “Oh, gods” could have all been an attempt just to get it over with quickly, so how do you know if you’ve ever even given her an orgasm?

There are actual signs of an orgasm that your partner simply cannot fake, all you need to be able to do is spot them. A real man can tell if a woman is faking it, and he won’t be satisfied until his partner is too. Therefore, it’s well worth knowing the biological signs of the female orgasms. However, before we continue, it’s worth noting that if you’re not seeing these telltale signs, it’s likely that you’ve got as much explaining to do as she does. Chances are that your partner is faking it so that she doesn’t hurt your feelings, so if the signs below aren’t live and kicking in the bedroom, it might be time for a frank discussion about how you can really please her for a change.

1. Her Walls Contract: Just as your little friend gets stiff when he’s aroused, the walls of your partner’s vagina will begin to tighten when she’s really feeling it. You’ll be able to tell if your finger or something else is in there. If the walls noticeably contract for a few seconds before relaxing again, it means the moment is right for you to really bring her all the way.

2. Her Eyes Change: While the missionary position may seem a little tired, it does have one unique advantage; eye contact. When you’re right up in each other’s faces being all romantic, you can take a look at her eyes as she experiences the fiery peak of the heat of the moment. While it’s possible that you might not have the presence of mind to focus on this detail, you can tell if she’s having a real orgasm because her eyes will become unfocused momentarily.

3. Her Skin Changes: After an orgasm, most women experience a “sex flush” on their skin. No, that’s not some term used in strip poker; it means that your partner’s skin reddens slightly due to her amped-up blood flow. After you collapse onto the bed next to her, take a look at her skin. If it’s still as exquisitely pale as ever, the odds are that you weren’t doing it for her the way she was doing it for you.

4. Her Breathing Changes: Slow and steady may be the way to beat a hare, but a steady breathing rate is a sure-fire sign that she’s not winning that race any time soon. If you’re really pleasing your partner, her breathing will become spastic and short in the last few moments of lead-up. Otherwise, she might be having a pleasant time – but that’s it.

5. Her Body Gets Tense: You may be thinking that sex is meant to relax you all over, rather than tense you up, but this is actually a very good thing. Temporarily, your partner’s body will get tense and, rest assured, this tension is no bad thing. If your partner is having an orgasm, her muscles will be contracting, which means her body will temporarily turn rigid as the pleasure courses through her.

While most head traumas are mild in nature, each one should be treated seriously. Head traumas can happen from a number of accidents, and it’s important to know the signs and symptoms so that you can receive immediate help. These are five signs and symptoms of head trauma that have often been noticed by individuals with head injuries.

Disorientation and Confusion

When a head trauma is suffered, many individuals report feeling a sense of confusion and disorientation. You might suddenly forget why you’re doing something, and you might not be able to make connections between certain events or things. It may also become incredibly difficult to focus on anything.

Headache and Dizziness

Headaches and dizziness are some of the most common signs and symptoms of head trauma. You might feel nauseous at times, and vomiting may even occur. It’s not uncommon for individuals who’ve suffered head traumas to stay seated for long periods of time in order to avoid discomfort.

Blurry Vision

Head trauma has been known to cause blurry vision, or even a loss of vision in individuals. After the trauma occurs, be sure to examine both eyes for signs of alteration. For example, dilated pupils are a common sign of concussions. If you’ve experienced a change in vision whatsoever after head trauma has taken place, it’s likely that you are injured.

Inability to Remember Recent Events

You might only recall patches of memories over the recent days or weeks. You might even draw a blank when attempting remember events that happened hours after the trauma was suffered. If you can’t remember suffering a head trauma at all or you think it may have happened at the fault of someone else, it might be wise to contact a personal injury firm such as Yearwood & Company to discuss your options.

Inability to Retain New Information

Lastly, head trauma can cause loss of memory on a current basis. Individuals might not be able to recall something that they were just told, or they could read a page out of a book and not remember any of the information it contained. The inability to remember any new information is a very common symptom of a head injury or trauma.

If any of these symptoms are observed, it’s extremely important to seek medical attention right away. The sooner a head trauma is treated, the higher the odds will be that you won’t suffer long term effects from the injury.

The purpose of doctors is to provide an expert service that will keep you healthy and help you recover from any conditions that you might acquire. While most are adept at doing this, there are certain doctors that make mistakes. The problem is that these mistakes can cost you your health and your life. That’s why these mistakes classify as medical malpractice. Below are four signs that you may have been a victim of malpractice.

You’re Not Getting Well

The biggest sign that you’ve been a victim of malpractice is that your symptoms aren’t subsiding. Your condition may actually be getting worse because the real problem isn’t being treated or you’re being given a treatment that exacerbates your problems. If your condition becomes progressively worse, then it’s time to seek a second or third opinion. Depending upon the severity of your condition, you might want to consider seeking reparations for malpractice.

Lack of a Prompt Diagnosis

In the field of healthcare, a prompt diagnosis can mean the difference between life and death. Delaying for too long can make a disease worse to the point that it may even become untreatable.

Ensure that your health provider doesn’t delay to make a diagnosis. Procrastination can allow your condition to progress from something curable into a terminal illness.

Failure to Look at Every Angle

There are routine procedures for diagnosing conditions, just as there are certain indicators in the blood and body that can help a doctor diagnose a condition. The problem is that many symptoms can apply to other conditions, which are not the cause of your problems.

Your doctor needs to look at your symptoms and test results. He or she should not rely solely upon one test or gut instinct to make a diagnosis.

Your Doctor’s Ignoring You

It is the responsibility of your doctor to listen to you, especially when you think that something isn’t quite right about your treatment. Your voice is the one thing that can notify your doctor that your condition isn’t responding to your treatment. If your doctor ignores you, regardless of the reason, then malpractice has occurred.

Resolving Medical Malpractice Before It’s Too Late

Medical malpractice occurs too frequently. It represents a failure in the healthcare industry that can cost you your livelihood, your well-being and a small fortune to fix.

Promptly resolving malpractice prevents problems from becoming worse and allows the right treatment to occur. Seeking reparations for it can aid in repairing the unnecessary pain and suffering that malpractice caused.

Inside of every tooth is a small area known as the pulp chamber. The pulp chamber houses the soft tissue that keeps the tooth alive, and this makes any damage to this area extremely risky. If the pulp becomes infected it can lead to serious discomfort and infect nearby tissue and other teeth. This issue is relatively common and one of the best treatment options is a root canal, also referred to as an endodontic treatment. Millions of these treatments are successfully carried out every year, and here is a look at three of the most common signs that a root canal may be needed.

1. An Overly Sensitive Tooth

A sensitive tooth or tender gums around the tooth is a common sign that the pulp within the tooth is damaged or diseased. Most patients will notice this sensitivity when eating or drinking hot or cold foods. They may also experience extra sensitivity any time that other objects come into contact with that specific tooth or the soft tissue around the tooth. This may include when brushing, flossing, chewing on gum, or even when talking. Any sensitivity in the mouth is a cause for concern and should be checked immediately.

2. Discolored Teeth or Gums

According to Smith Family Dental, a Utah family dentist, another common symptom that could indicate damaged or diseased pulp is discoloration around the tooth or gums. When the pulp becomes damaged it can no longer nourish or protect the outer layers of enamel and dentin. For some patients, this will mean a slight discoloration of the tooth that gets worse as time goes on. The infected cells could also leak out of the tooth and begin to damage the surrounding gums. Patients could notice sores on their gums or gums that have become especially bright or dark when compared to the rest of the mouth.

3. Swollen Soft Tissue

If the gums or other soft tissue around the mouth become swollen at any time and there has not been direct trauma patients should schedule an immediate appointment with their dentist. The mouth is home to a variety of bacteria, some of which is good and some of which can be harmful. When the harmful bacteria is coming damaged teeth or diseased pulp it can result in swelling around the tooth, bleeding, and discomfort. Any swelling lasting longer than a day is generally due to a more severe issue that must be treated.

Root canals are now more stress-free and pain-free than ever. Anyone experiencing any of these three symptoms should contact their dentist immediately and discuss their options for treatment.

One of the most common outcomes of an injury to the head is a concussion. Though concussions are often associated with loss of consciousness, their other effects on the body may be far more insidious. Observe and talk to anyone who has suffered head trauma to discover if they are experiencing any of the following symptoms.

Headache

Ongoing pain after a head injury could indicate the presence of a concussion. Concussive headaches tend to differ from normal headaches in that they often get worse over time. Usually, pain will be felt as either a migraine or a tension headache, in which a person feels pressure on one side of their head.

Nausea

After a head injury, a person may vomit or feel sick. This is often an early-onset symptom of concussion, meaning it appears directly after the injury. If someone feels nauseous after a blow to the head, have that person sit down and put their head between their knees. Usually, but not always, feelings of nausea will disappear within a few minutes.

Dizziness

Loss of balance is another sign of concussion. Injury to the head can induce dizziness or even vertigo by causing damage to the inner ear. Signs of dizziness may include stumbling, unfocused eyes, poor hand-eye coordination, and hearing a nonexistent tone.

Amnesia and Confusion

Concussions are also associated with amnesia. This memory loss can affect recall of the time either before or after the injury. Anterograde amnesia, or loss of memory after a blow to the head, is often the most persistent symptom of a concussion. Even if the injured person doesn’t experience full-blown amnesia, he or she may exhibit confusion. An Edmonton lawyer from Cummings Andrews Mackay LLP, who often advises clients that have suffered a traumatic injury, says confusion and other signs of mental impairmentare some of the most definite indicators of a concussive injury. Symptoms of an impaired mental state include vague answers to questions, trouble focusing, difficulty in making decisions, and disorientation.

Be aware that some of these symptoms may not present themselves until a few days after the injury has occurred. Also, the length of time they persist is variable from person to person, sometimes lasting for months. It’s important that anyone exhibiting any sign of a concussion seeks medical attention immediately.

A concussive event not only kills brain cells, but it makes other cells in the brain more vulnerable to long-term damage. Therefore, anybody who has suffered a head injury should minimize their physical activity until all symptoms have completely disappeared.

Water sustains life, it’s as simple as that. That’s why knowing if your tap water is clean and safe to drink is so important for your health. You can determine the safety of your drinking water by knowing the signs of contamination and what might be causing it.

A common cause of contamination in modern water systems is backflow. This is when pressure is reversed in the system causing clean water to mix with untreated or dirty water. It can be hard to tell if you have a backflow problem specifically, but the first thing to look for are contaminates in the water.

Visual Signs:

  • Milky water: This is a very general indicator and one of the first things to look for. It means there is anything from methane gas to foreign particulates suspended in the water.

  • Reddish brown water: Iron, dirt, or rust in the water will turn it this color. The water will also smell metallic or earthy.

  • White deposits in kettles, pans, showers and appliances: This indicates you have hard water. In certain areas, water percolates naturally though limestone, dolomite or chalk deposits, taking with it high quantities of calcium and magnesium. Hard water is not harmful to drink but can clog shower heads, faucets, coffee makers, and water purifies.

  • Foamy or sudsy water: According to an Edmonton drain cleaning specialist from Need-A-Plumber Canada, foamy water could indicate a surfactant, like detergent or diluted sewage, in the water.

Olfactory Clues:

  • Bleach like or chlorine odor: This indicates there is chlorine or other chemical contaminates present.

  • Detergent smell: A foaming agent or surfactant will give water a detergent like smell. To test it further, agitate the water to see if it foams or bubbles excessively.

  • Musty, sweet, pungent, or earthy smell: This indicates organic matter is present.

  • Oil or gas smell: This indicates that volatile organic compounds are present. In extreme cases this can be a fire hazard, so be cautious.

  • Rotten egg smell: The smell of rotten eggs can come from two sources, the presence of Hydrogen sulfide or sulfur in the water. Both are dangerous and indicate severe contamination.

Knowing what to look for will help you stay healthy and keep your family safe. If you suspect your water is contaminated, notify your local public water authority immediately and have your system checked for backflow problems. When it comes to the water you drink, you can never be too safe.

Your eyes are important to functioning in everyday activities and enjoyment of life. You can help to protect your eyes by wearing protective sunglasses in bright sunlight, using goggles when working with chemicals and seeing an eye doctor on a regular basis. A number of symptoms can indicate a serious problem with your eyes that should be seen immediately by an eye specialist.

1 – Sudden Vision Loss

If you suddenly lose vision in a part of the eye or one eye, you should get to the doctor immediately to determine the cause of the problem. This symptom can indicate a number of different serious conditions, including macular degeneration, glaucoma or retinal detachment. Immediate medical attention can help to preserve sight in the eye. In some cases, surgery may be needed to prevent permanent blindness.

2 – Unusual Flashes or Floaters in the Eye

People often experience a number of floating spots, flashes or shadows across the field of vision. Although these symptoms are not always a sign of serious vision problems, they should be checked out by an eye doctor. In most cases, these spots and flashes are signs of aging in the viscous fluid of the eyes and do not require treatment. However, the symptoms can sometimes indicate retinal detachment that involves separation of the nerve layer at the back of the eye. This condition is very serious and can lead to blindness (Source: Londonderry Eye Care). An eye specialist uses special equipment to determine whether the symptoms are minor or caused by a more serious problem. These symptoms may require monitoring over time to ensure that the eye condition does not worsen.

3 – Persistent Eye Pain

If you experience eye pain that lasts for a period of time, you should see an eye specialist as soon as possible to ensure that it is not a serious eye disease. Although most eye conditions do not cause pain, a few may cause discomfort, such as an eye injury, glaucoma or cancer of the eye. A severe blow to the eye or head can cause retinal detachment, which requires immediate medical attention. If you have suffered an injury to the eye that causes pain, make an appointment to see an eye doctor to ensure that the injury is minor and needs no further treatment.

If you experience any of these signs, consult with an eye specialist immediately. In many cases, seeing your eye professional on a regular basis can help to detect problems in the early stages to prevent vision emergencies.

Not only is good eyesight an important part of everyday activities, issues with one’s vision could be indicative of more serious medical issues that are taking place. For those that have not recently scheduled an appointment with an ophthalmologist, here are seven signs that it may be time.

1. Eye Fatigue and Strain

Eye fatigue may seem like nothing more than a daily hassle for some, especially those staring at a computer screen all day, but it also could mean that serious issues are taking place. The occasional feeling as if one’s eyes are tired can be normal, but those that struggle with chronic eye fatigue or strain should schedule an appointment immediately.

2. Discoloration and Discharge

Outside of direct pain and discomfort, discoloration and discharge in or around the eyes typically means that an infection is taking place. Infections can have a very large impact on one’s eyesight and will require an immediate trip to a specialist.

3. Headaches

Headaches can take place due to a lack of sleep, trauma, or even medications that one is taking, but they can also be the result of damage or deterioration to the eyes. Chronic headaches, particularly when combined with any of these other side effects, should be thoroughly treated by an eye doctor.

4. A Gradual Blurring of Vision

No matter how careful one may be with their eyesight, almost everyone is going to have their vision slowly decline. Due to the fact that a decline in vision is gradual, it is difficult for many to tell it is happening until much later, but any signs of deteriorating eyesight should be accompanied by a full checkup.

5. No Checkups in the Past Two Years

Even those who feel as if their eyes are perfectly healthy should schedule an appointment if they have not seen an ophthalmologist in the past 24 months. According to those at For Your Eyes Only Vision Center, preventative checkups are quick, affordable, and will help patients hedge off common eyesight problems over the years.

6. Sudden Visual Disturbances

Visual disturbances that come about suddenly could mean a serious medical issue such as a detached retina or retinal tear. Some of the most common disturbances to be aware of include flashes of light, obstruction to one’s vision in a specific location, or floaters.

7. Vision Issues with Strong Light Sources

When squinting or staring at a bright screen in the dark, eye eyes will often have issues with brighter light sources. If halos or rings appear around light sources, certain components of one’s eyes are no longer functioning properly and should be assessed.

There is too much at stake for anyone to leave the health of their eyes up to chance. Those experiencing even one of these issues should seek out a full checkup immediately to prevent any major damage.

All marriages have their good times and their bad times. When those bad times come around, it can be a struggle to make the marriage work. You may want to try to work things out, but some things a marriage cannot recover from. Sometimes, the best of intentions just cannot save a marriage from falling apart. There are some signs that your marriage is over that cannot be ignored.

You No Longer Love Each Other

At one point, you loved each other. You were in love enough to say “I Do” and you meant it. Now the thought of them makes you feel sick or violent, or a combination of both. You may have even told your spouse that you hate them. At this point, your marriage is not likely to be fixed.

You are Thinking about Cheating

Having an affair is not always a sign of the end, but if you start imagining your life would be better with another person, it is likely that you are not invested in trying to make things better in your marriage. You also risk your spouse finding out that you are cheating. Even if you later decided to work on your marriage, your spouse may not want to.

Counseling Did Not Work

Many couples will seek out counseling to try to make their marriage work. Having an impartial person hear your concerns can help to heal the hurt feelings and mend the relationship. According to Valerie M. Little Law Corporation, a family lawyer in Coquitlam, counseling does not always help to fix the marriage. When it fails, divorce may be that only course of action you have left.

Your Fights Have Turned Physical

If you suddenly find your fights becoming violent, it is definitely time to divorce. Whether both partners are being physical or only one, abusive relationships should always be ended. Violence in a marriage may get worse if you stay together. If the violence is one sided, getting help to get out may be necessary to end the marriage.

Making a marriage work is difficult. If you have seen the warning signs, it might be time to sit down with your spouse and decide if you really want to make things work. If you have decided that you can no longer remain married, it is best to file for divorce. Sometimes, that is the only solution and it is better for you to be happy apart than miserable together.

Have you been feeling concerned about your health and wellbeing lately? You may just be feeling a little run down, or you may have a nagging feeling that your wellness is being affected by something unseen, something ‘under the surface’, but it can be hard to tell and you don’t want to seem like a hypochondriac by going to the doctor with a general feeling of unease.

Fortunately, there are some subtle signs that you may be harbouring a more serious health problem, and if you are suffering from any of these signs and symptoms then you would be perfectly justified in heading down to the doctors to make sure that it is nothing more serious and underlying.

Inflamed skin can be a sign of internal distress. Abnormal capillary activity along your chin area shows that you have a distressed digestive system, and signs of this can also come in the form of flaking and dermatitis or eczema along your hairline or forehead.

If you have dark circles under your eyes, you are likely to dismiss it as lack of sleep. Lack of sleep is the major cause of most dark circles under the eyes, but it can also be caused by a deficiency of phenol sulfotransferase, which can cause behavioural and physical problems. If you have persistent dark circles, see a doctor to find out if something is going on.

Mouth sores and ulcers can also be a sign that something is wrong. It may simply be that you are stressed and run down, but if you are suffering from repeated mouth ulcers it may be a sign that you have a more serious condition such as celiacs disease or throat and mouth cancer.

Hair loss shouldn’t be ignored either – a bit of hair loss each day is normal, but excessive hair loss can be caused by anaemia, thyroid problems and some other conditions.

Addiction is an alarmingly common problem, affecting millions of people in the United States. To make matters worse, addiction doesn’t just cause harm to the addicted individuals themselves. Friends and family members also suffer. It could be your teenage son or daughter, your brother or sister, or even a parent who suffers from substance addiction. Nobody wants to watch someone they care for destroy their life and their self. If you suspect that someone you love has a problem with addiction and you want to help, here are four physical signs to look for:

Significant Weight Loss

Substance abuse often results in a diminished appetite, which can trigger dramatic weight loss over a short period of time. People with severe addictions may rapidly lose muscle mass and body fat, causing them to appear as though they’re wasting away. In extreme cases, they may develop a bony or skeletal appearance.

Scabs and Scars

Several commonly abused substances will cause crawling burning feelings in the skin or excessive itching upon withdrawal, which may cause the addicted person to scratch and pick at themselves until wounds develop. These injuries are typically located on the face and arms but may also be on hidden areas of the body. Restlessness due to over-stimulation may also trigger this behavior.

Another physical sign to look for is needle tracks, which appear as elongated, reddened marks on the inner forearm or other common injection sites. These occur from repeated use of injected substances and are the result of venous collapse, which renders those veins useless for injection. Eventually, this can drive addicts to inject in increasingly bizarre areas, like between the toes and in the neck. In some cases, these injuries may become infected, requiring immediate medical attention.

Withdrawal Symptoms

One of the most noticeable indicators of drug addiction is the presence of withdrawal symptoms. These are often obvious, even when no other signs are present. Someone who is addicted to a substance will be unable to go for long periods without another fix. When they don’t get another dose, any number of behavioral or mood changes will occur. The person may suffer from unexplained panic attacks or anxiety, which may make them try to avoid all interaction. They may also become uncharacteristically irritable or hostile, sometimes to the point of losing their temper or getting into legal trouble. In addition, you may notice profuse sweating, tremors, vomiting, dizziness, fatigue, depression, and sometimes seizures.

Haggard Appearance

An individual with a severe addictions may exhibit a worsening of their appearance over time. Substance abuse is very harsh on the body and addicts are often lacking in healthy lifestyle habits. Someone with a drug problem may appear haggard and worn, often looking significantly older than they are.

Addiction is a difficult hurdle to overcome, but with your help and support, there is hope for your loved one. Sit down and have a talk with them, then suggest some reputable drug rehabs they could to to for professional treatment. Rehabilitation is made much easier when the addicted individual has the support of loved ones to bolster them through recovery.

Depending on the age of your child, vision problems can be hard to detect. For very young children, parents have to pay particular attention to their child to notice vision problems, but as children get a bit older, more to school age, children often give off warning signs of vision problems. When children have been living most of their lives with blurred vision, they might not even realize what they are missing. As parents, there are signs to look out for so that we can help our children see clearly.

Sitting Very Close To The Television Or Computer

In today’s day in age, children start watching television and playing on the computer at a young age. Watching a child’s habits while they are watching television or playing on the computer can give a parent a signal the child might have a vision problem. When a child is watching a program or playing a game on the computer, it is not normal to sit very close to the screen. If the child is incredibly close to the screen, this might be a sign of a vision problem.

Squints Or Closes One Eye While Reading

Another sign that your child might have a vision problem is if he or she squints or closes one eye while reading a book or for young children, looking at pictures. This is a way to try and focus the text or pictures of the book better. If you notice your child squinting, address the problem by asking your child about it and then taking them to an eye doctor.

Has Bad Headaches During The School Day

A common sign of a vision problem in a child is a bad headache during or after the school day. According to a Calgary Optometrist from Eyeconx, an occasional headache is not necessarily a sign as that could be caused by stress or anything else, but reoccurring headaches are often a sign of vision issues. As the child struggles to see clearly during the school day, this puts stress on them and can easily cause headaches. It’s best to see an optometrist so you can either get their vision corrected or rule it out as a problem and find out what is causing it.

Noticeable Visual Eye Problems

A child having an eye that crosses in or out, or their eyes do not work as a pair can be a tell tale sign that there is a vision problem going on. Eyes crossing or not working as a pair can cause one eye to take control over the other making one eye much weaker. If you notice anything like this, your child most likely needs vision correction.

Redness In Eyes That Lasts For Days

Redness in eyes is not uncommon, but it is uncommon to last for days or be coupled with sensitivity. Redness in a child’s eyes that does not go away for days could be a sign of vision problems.

Detecting vision problems in children can sometimes be difficult because a child does not know a vision problem is there, however, there are signs that to look for if you think your child might have a vision problem. If multiple signs point toward your child having a vision problem it is important to get an optometrist appointment set up to narrow down and diagnose the issue. Vision problems are generally easily corrected and it’s best to seek out care as soon as you think there may be a problem. If children go to school without seeing clearly, their grades and self esteem may suffer simply because of their inability to see and understand things clearly.

Even though dyslexia has been a health concern amongst many individuals for a long time, it has only really received the attention it deserves in the last few years. Unfortunately, it’s not exactly understood how or why dyslexia affects your child’s wellbeing, but the signs of the condition are becoming more and more noticeable, so at least it’s easier to spot.

When your child’s wellness is affected by dyslexia, this means that he or she has difficulty with reading, writing and spelling. Dyslexia has a neurological origin, but it’s primarily seen as a learning difficulty that affects literacy skills. The condition can take its toll on your child’s education, but luckily you can better deal with dyslexia once you understand the symptoms and signs, as this means you can get your child the help he or she needs to succeed at school. So how can you tell if your child has dyslexia? Ask yourself the following questions:

1. Compared to other children of the same age, does your child have delayed speech development, or more difficulty in learning language?

2. From an early age, has your child demonstrated a certain level of struggle in learning and remembering rhymes and poems, or the order of the alphabet or numbers?

3. Compared to other children at school, does your child struggle with spellings, remembering common words and letters or their combinations, or just general reading skills?

4. Does your child get confused with the numbers or letters that appear to be the reverse of others? Does he or she mix up b and d, p and q, etc.? This may be why your child has problems reading or writing certain words.

5. Does your child have a problem with co-ordination, left and right directions, arranging books or playing games that require sequencing?

6. Does your child have a poor academic performance in spite of having an average IQ?

7. Does your child act out a lot? This may be in frustration at being an able to read and write in spite of his or her best efforts.

8. Doe your child avoid activities and other children? Your child may have recognised the errors that he or she has been making, and so would rather avoid any activities involving reading, writing or language skills. Dyslexia can produce a feeling of inferiority, and so your child may steer clear of other children.

Traumatic brain injury, or TBI, is a very serious condition that can occur at any time there is an injury involving the head. Head injuries and brain injuries are two different types of injuries, and you do not have to suffer from both to have one or the other.

TBI has been classified into three categories. A Personal Injury Attorney in Pasadena, CA lists some examples of each category on their website. Each of these categories has their own signs and symptoms. It should be noted that moderate and severe TBI can have lasting impacts on the victim’s life.

Mild Traumatic Brain Injury. This type of injury usually involves a concussion. The person did not have to be rendered unconscious to receive an injury, and the head does not have to be physically damaged. In most cases, these injuries occur from violent shaking of the head, such as during the impact of a vehicle accident. Symptoms include dizziness, vomiting, loss of memory, difficulty concentrating, and irritability without justification.

Moderate Traumatic Brain Injury. To be classified as a moderate case of TBI, the victim must have been knocked unconscious and remained that way for up to one full day. There are serious side effects that last for months associated with this problem. All the symptoms mentioned above are prolonged, and there is a noticeable problem with anger issues and uncontrolled emotions. Moderate TBI victims become easily confused and may also have physical impairments due to the brain trauma. There may also be issues with loss of vision from time to time.

Severe Traumatic Brain Injury. This type of brain injury usually occurs with physical m to the head. Severe TBI victims can loose mobility at times, have sensory malfunctions, lose ability to see, hear, or taste things at different intervals and without warning. Severe TBI usually causes lasting physical issues and most sufferers have a very hard time controlling their emotions. They are prone to anger problems and often have to be restrained or medicated to control these temper problems.

It is very important to note that TBI can be a lasting issue, even in mild form. Flare ups of these problems can continue to occur for weeks, months, even the rest of their lives depending on severity. They can also flare up after long periods of no symptoms.

TBI symptoms are often overlooked because the victim does not complain about a headache or about feeling dizzy when they stand up. They may thin that the food they ate was just awful instead of realizing that their sense of taste is gone. They may even believe they are imagining the problems. The cue that everyone should watch for is the anger and irrational emotions. This is usually a signal that they need help.

Anyone who has been involved in an accident or has been diagnosed with a concussion or other brain or head injury should be carefully monitored for these signs of TBI. It will be necessary for a loved one to spot the signs and take them for immediate medical care because the scariest part of TBI is that the victim often does not understand what is happening.

An avid follower of Tripp Halstead, a little boy who suffered a TBI from a fallen branch, Melanie Fleury was inspired to write this article to educate others on the types of traumatic brain injury. She searched the site of a Personal Injury Attorney in Pasadena, CA to learn more about common head injuries and how they are treated.

Hearing loss is a common genetic disorder; in fact, approximately 1.4 out of every thousand children born in the United States has some form of hearing impairment. Even children who test normal as infants can develop a hearing impairment over time.

Early Intervention

When it comes to hearing loss, early intervention is important. Babies who are treated for hearing loss before six months of age tend to keep up with their peers as far as language skills. Those who receive delayed treatment often experience language delays or speech impairments. School-age children with untreated hearing loss may have trouble in school and may even be identified as trouble makers due to a perceived inability to follow direction.

Early Testing

It is important for children to be screened early. Babies as young as one month of age can benefit from hearing aids. Many hospitals offer in-hospital testing within a few days of birth, according to an expert of hearing aids Arizona. If you as the parent or caretaker can recognize the hearing loss early, you can help decrease the chance of having other developmental problems such as delayed speech.

Risk Factors

There is a genetic link for hearing loss. More than half of all children who experience hearing loss have a family member with a similar condition. Other risk factors include prenatal exposure to an infection, such as CMV or toxoplasmosis, premature birth, chronic ear infections and severe head trauma.

Warning Signs in Babies

Infants have a natural startle reaction to loud noises. Those not showing signs of this reaction should be tested, even if they passed the newborn screening. By three months, the child should start to recognize the sounds of his or her parents’ voices, and, by six months, the child should be able to turn or look at the source of a sound, whether it be the parents voice or a melody. Children with partial hearing loss may also seem to respond to certain sounds but ignore others. By one year of age, the child should begin to say simple words.

Warning Signs in Older Children

Delayed and thick speech is a major concern in older children. By age two, parents and other caretakers should be able to understand about half of what the child says. By age four, speech should be clear enough that even strangers understand what the child is saying. Children who are not reaching the milestones for their age group may be experiencing some form of hearing loss or other developmental delay that should be addressed.

It is important for caregivers to keep an eye on the child’s development. Hearing loss can present itself in several ways. The good news is that early intervention and treatment can help the child reach their developmental milestones.

What is it about the human body that suddenly makes you say “Wow, they’ve aged!”? Is it just the odd wrinkle or receding hairline, or are there other giveaways that show your anti-ageing wellness isn’t what it should be? Let’s take a look at some of the ways in which age gives your wellbeing a battering, and how you can fight back.

Thinning hair – According to A. Bobby Spence, a trichologist at The Hair Loss Clinic in Alexandria, Virginia, ‘Elevated testosterone levels have a miniaturizing effect on hair follicles, which causes thinning.’ However, you can increase thickness and shine by taking a daily multivitamin that is rich in amino acids and B vitamins. Otherwise, speak to your doctor about a prescription for Rogaine, as this can thicken your hair by enlarging your follicles.

Yellow teeth and receding gums – Lawrence E. Brecht, D.D.S., a prosthodontist in New York City, explains, ‘Excessive plaque build-up can lead to gingivitis, a disease that causes bleeding and tenderness in the tissue around the teeth.’ However, he adds, daily flossing is ‘a must to help maintain healthy gum tissue and keep it from receding.’ You can also hold on to those pearly whiles by using disposable toothbrushes after every meal and drink, and whitening strips every six months.

Sparse, brittle eyelashes – Jan Marini, founder and CEO of Jan Marini Skin Research, notes that your eyelashes shed when you frequently rubs your eyes, and your natural replenishing system slows down as you age. Therefore, you might want to try OTC remedies to make your lashes more resilient. If your eyelashes are brittle and weak at the ends, you can probably blame your old mascara, so make sure you replace mascara every 90 days and use a gentle eye makeup remover.

Damaged nails– Hands are a dead giveaway of ageing, because your skin and nails lose moisture over time. Jin Soon Choi, a salon owner in New York City, adds, ‘Constant use of polish and coarse nail tools will also weaken the nails. She recommends a good hand and nail moisturiser, and skipping the polish every few weeks and buffing your nails instead. Choi explains, ‘It gives nails a shiny finish and a chance to air out.’

Breast Cancer and when to get the Doc InvolvedChecking your breasts for lumps or any unusual signs should be a regular part of your routine. Doing this once a month, and having a yearly check up with your doctor, can help you find a problem quickly, which means you can better look out for your wellbeing and get fast treatment. You know you have to check for lumps, but what else do you need to look for? Knowing this will give you the confidence you need to seek an early diagnosis and treatment, which is especially important if you have a family history of the disease, or your lifestyle contains wellness risk factors for cancer-female/">breast cancer.

There is an association between certain types of cancer and a diet high in fat and processed foods and low in wholefoods, fruits and vegetables. Another risk factor for the disease is if you get little or no exercise, but perhaps one of the biggest, and least paid attention to, is the effect that prolonged or long-term stress can have. If you have a high-stress load, such as financial difficulties, caring for an elderly or sick relative, or just having too much on your plate, dealing with these stressful situations, and getting help instead of doing it all yourself, can reduce your risk of cancer as well as a multitude of other illnesses.

So what seven signs should you be on the look out for? Firstly, feel or look for any thickening or a lump around your underarm or breast. Then see if there has been any change in either the shape or size of your breast. Next, has there been any tenderness or discharge from your nipple? Has your nipple become inverted? Also, look for changes to the appearance of your breast, such as pitting (like cellulite) or ridges.

Look at and feel all parts of the breast area (breast, areola and nipple) and see if anything is different. Finally, look for signs of oestrogen dominance. If you do notice any of these signs, you shouldn’t brush them off but immediately see your doctor. They could have a number of different causes, or be completely benign, but these signs could indicate that something in your body is not right and it is time to get medical attention.
