Are you like most people looking for those simple things you can do to enhance your beauty? Many women who have entered the world of cosmetics, hair products, gadgets and or medical procedures including surgeries to enhance beauty, have found that it can be quite an expensive activity.

It always helps to do your homework first. Here are 7 simple, but key, things that you can do to enhance your beauty.

1.   Exfoliate and clean up your skin

The skin is constantly regenerating itself. Cleaning up your skin and exfoliating will definitely help your face look healthy and feel beautiful.

Exfoliating is necessary because as your body generates new skin, old skin/dead skin remains at the surface if not removed.

When you apply cosmetic products on your face without exfoliating, it’s easy to imagine why that will be quite a waste because you will basically be applying these products on dead skin.

2.   Facial firming

Facial firming includes everything that you can do to help keep your facial skin looking and feeling youthful.

You could use exercise and/or yoga, healthy diet, drinking enough water and exercise. You could also use cosmetic products.

For a review on the best cosmetic products to use read this article Diana Bradley reveals the top facial firming products of 2015.

These products are not just quick fixes, but they are products with ingredients that actually work.

3.   Good Makeup

When most women think of enhancing beauty, makeup is usually the first thought that comes to mind. There are many articles that you can read online about makeup. These will tell you most of what you need to know about the different types of make-up, how to apply them, when to apply them and so on.

As you do your research, focus on products and information that shows you how you can apply makeup without clogging your pores, but instead allows your skin to breath. Look for mineral makeup that is gentle on your skin.

4.   Healthy hair and hair removal

Having healthy hair in the right places and no hair where it shouldn’t be, will allow you to feel more comfortable and beautiful. Some of the key things to consider here include;

  • Brushing your hair and massaging your scalp

  • Scalp stimulation

  • Laser hair removal

  • Grooming your eyebrows

5.   Physical activity including sex

Exercise will increase blood flow through your whole body while releasing hormones that are good for your health.

Sex has been proven to greatly enhance feelings of beauty not only emotionally but also physically.

After all the activities and stresses of living, it is then important to rest enough. This will help bring your stress levels down and it will show in your body. You will look beautiful.

6.   Eat healthy

Healthy living including eating adequate amounts of protein, vegetables and fruit can enhance your beauty.

For example, Keratin, which is a type of protein, is very important for healthy hair and nails. Eating foods that contain keratin will ensure that your hair and nails grow healthy and beautiful naturally.

While you are at it, reduce the toxins in your body. Quitting smoking and reducing alcohol intake are two immediate things that you can do.

In your teens, your skincare wellness tends to revolve around eliminating acne, and then you hit that sweet spot in your twenties in which skin problems no longer plague your wellbeing. Your skin is clear, glowing and soft with minimal to no effort on your part – if only things stayed that way forever! Unfortunately, skin problems are never that far away, and if acne is no longer an issue, you’ve got something new you need to deal with: dry skin. Unlike acne, dry skin isn’t something you naturally grow out of; it’s a problem you need to take steps to eliminate or it will continue to get worse.

According to anti-ageing wellness expert Anvi Mehta, ‘Rough and dry skin can be embarrassing some times. Nobody wants to show their rough, dry and flaky skin to anybody. Skin can become rough and dry because of exposure to sun and pollution, temperature and climatic conditions, dehydration of skin and skin related diseases. Rough skin tends to cause patches, flakes, cracks and redness all over the skin. The common areas of rough skin patches are the elbows, knees, heels and cheeks. Skincare for rough skin is essential to improve the texture of your skin.’ But how do you rub away the rough and leave yourself with smooth, soft skin?

1. Add Moisture: ‘The most important factor for skin care for rough skin includes re-hydrating the dry part,’ says Mehta. ‘For this, use a good moisturiser preferably made from milk and cream extracts. The more you rub a moisturiser on the rough skin, the sooner you shall have a change in skin quality. Using a good and natural moisturiser is a skin care tip for rough skin.’

2. Scrub Away the Rough: Mehta notes, ‘Rough skin is generally because of the dead skin cells and damaged cells. Skincare for rough skin includes removing the dead skins cells. To do so, use a good scrub at least once a week. Rub the scrub on the area of rough and dry skin for 10-15 minutes and then rinse with water. Apply moisturiser after scrubbing your skin. The scrub will help to remove unwanted skin cells and boost the growth of new skin cells. Skin becomes supple and soft after using a scrub. Visible effects are observed after a few weeks. This is also a good skin care tip for rough skin.’

3. Use Less Soap: ‘Soap contains certain chemicals that can make your skin more dull and dry,’ Mehta explains. ‘Especially for the face, avoid using soaps and replace them with a gentle face wash. Soaps tend to absorb all the moisture from the skin and make the skin rough and dry. Skin care for rough skin requires use of naturally made face washes which are sensitive towards skin and helps to enhance the texture of the skin. This is a must do tip for rough skin.’

4. Try to Relax: Mehta points out, ‘Stress also leads to skin problems and diseases. For a healthy skin it is necessary for you to be happy and mentally stable. Do not stress yourself too much; it may affect the skin quality. Take a spa appointment or relax in your gym steam room at regular intervals of time to relax your body. De-stressing is one of the skin tips for rough skin.’

5. Eat Healthily and Drink Water: ‘Healthy eating habits also show good results for skin care for rough skin,’ asserts Mehta. ‘Eat fruits with high water content to replenish your skin. Dry skin is mainly because of dehydration. Also drink a lot of water to rejuvenate your skin cells.’

Dry skin is, ironically, a real dampener on your wellbeing. When your skin is flaky and itchy, all you can think about is getting fast and effective relief, and never having to go through that irritation again. This means you might find yourself reaching for a moisturiser with a hefty price tag, but enhancing your skin wellness isn’t just about slapping on a cream and being done with it; it depends on all kinds of factors, such as how you clean your skin, the air around you, and even your clothes. Try our top tips for soothing your dry skin:

1. Don’t get overheated: According to dermatologist Andrea Lynn Cambio, MD, even though that steamy shower feels good, the hot water is actually drying out your skin. If your shower or bath is hot, rather than warm, it strips your body of its natural oil barrier that otherwise works to trap moisture and keep your skin smooth and hydrated. As well as turning down the temperature, you should also dial it back on how long you spend in the tub. Skincare experts recommend short, warm showers or baths that last no longer than five to 10 minutes, and you should gently pat dry and moisturise your body afterwards.

2. Cleanse gently: When you’re in the shower, make sure you use a gentle soap that doesn’t contain any fragrances, deodorants or antibacterial additives, as these can be harsh on your skin. Dermatologist Carolyn Jacob, MD, notes that cleansers that contain ceramides help your skin to hold in moisture, as these fatty molecules make up the outer barrier of your skin. However, you lose ceramides as you age, making products containing the molecules essential to your anti ageing wellness. You should avoid any toner, peel or other astringent that has been made with alcohol, as this dries your skin, and Jacob warns that exfoliating too much or too hard can irritate and thicken your skin, so be gentle.

3. Shave smartly: When you shave unwanted hair away, you also scrape off natural oils, which is why shaving can irritate dry skin. The American Academy of Dermatology recommends shaving after a shower, as it is during this time that hairs are softer and more pliable. Make sure your razor is sharp and you clean reusable blades with rubbing alcohol between uses. Never neglect to use a shaving cream or gel, and make sure you shave in the direction the hair is growing.

4. Shun the sun: Dry skin, wrinkles and roughness are all caused, to a large extent, by sun damage, and so wearing an SPF 30 sun cream every day can help to reduce the sun’s impact on your skin. Dressing correctly can also help you lessen sun damage, and Cambio points out that during cool weather you should ‘dress in layers to prevent overheating and perspiring excessively; both can irritate the skin.’ In winter, you can also prevent dry lips by using a lip balm with SPF 15 sun cream. When summer rolls around, light, loose, long-sleeved shirts and a wide hat can help to shade your skin.

5. Get the right moisturiser: Dermatologist Sonia Badreshia-Bansal, MD, advises, ‘Petroleum jelly makes a great moisturiser.’ However, you can also use mineral oil or your favourite cream or lotion – just find one that works for you. Leslie Baumann, MD, director of the Cosmetic Medicine and Research Institute at the University of Miami, recommends rich moisturisers containing shea butter, ceramides, stearic acid, or, her personal favourite, glycerin, as she says, ‘All are rich moisturisers that will help you replenish your skin barrier.’

The skin is the largest organ in the body and undoubtedly one of the most important to us in our daily lives. Our skin is our first line of defence against every piece of dirt and bacteria that we come in contact with and yet it’s also a signifier of our health and physical wellbeing. We expect a lot from our skin and yet it is so often one of the parts of the body that gets neglected when we think about looking after ourselves. But when we do try to take care of it there are a lot of different ways that people think are a good idea.

For many people, finding a way to care for their skin comes through one way and one way only: creams. A huge number of people use creams on their skin in order to stay healthy. And yet so many of these creams don’t contain natural or healthy ingredients, and while they may initially make your skin look better they will actually be worse for you in the long term. So it is a much better idea to look for other ways – healthier natural ways – that can help your skin look its best.

Interestingly one of the key ways that people are now beginning to care for their skin is through the practice of yoga. Yoga is well known as a way to exercise and become more flexible, but you may not know it as a way to keep your skin looking as good as it can. The science behind it is actually fairly simple – yoga increases blood flow which means that it is easier for the skin to be oxygenated. This means that skin is healthier in every way and will have that characteristic glow that we all want to achieve form our skin.

There are a number of different asanas or poses that can really make a big difference to your life and your skin. Before you attempt any of them, though, it is well worth going through the basic requirements of thinking about practising safe yoga. Firstly, if you have any existing back problems, neck pain or high blood pressure, practising yoga can be something of a problem. You should certainly consult your doctor and talk about whether it is actually safe for you do it. Clearly your health needs to take precedence over good looking skin.

One key pose is known as the matsyasana. This pose will help you to relax your facial muscles and then strengthen the muscles that you have in the neck and back. It also allows for controlled flow of blood to the face and increases the amount of oxygen that you have in your blood. Clearly these are all fantastic things for improving your skin. And it is also one that you can do comfortably in your own home.

To do this you will need to lie down flat on the floor with your knees bent and your feet flat on the floor. Then you have to straighten your legs, and place your arms on either side of you. Now you will need to raise your hips, and do it on both sides, but only one side at a time and place your hands under each hip as you do it. Then bend your elbows and push your upper body off of the floor, being sure to breathe out when you do this. You should raise your chest, and then tilt your head back. Hold this pose for five seconds and then breathe out.

Herbal tea has long been associated with a healthy diet, thanks to the lack of sugar and the belief that herbal remedies are good for us. With winter fast approaching, we’re suddenly looking for ways to overcome the drying indoor heating and lack of exercise (and the associated lack of water intake) that makes us dehydrated. It’s worth the effort to stay hydrated though, as your body needs water far more than you realise. Not only does drinking enough keep your skin plump and healthy, it also helps your body to fight illnesses and viruses which are prevalent in the winter months. This is because dry mucus membranes make it far easier for germs to get into the body, lowering your defence mechanisms. However, while it’s very easy to say you’ll drink water more during the winter, when it’s cold you don’t want to swig down a glass of ice cold water. Herbal teas are a great way to overcome this problem, as they offer flavour, warmth and plenty of hydration. It’s also been suggested that many herbs can help to improve the condition of your skin.

Teas with burdock and yellow dock root could help to alleviate dry skin and psoriasis, as well as dandelion root being great for cleansing your liver. Those with rose petal and hibiscus are a natural source of vitamin C which is known to boost the health of your skin, and you can add orange peel to boost both the vitamin C levels and the flavour of the tea. Rooibus tea has increased in popularity in recent years and is a known antioxidant from the African bush. If you can drink a cup of this a day, you’ll start to notice an improvement in your skin’s condition. Skin-focused teas often include a wealth of ingredients to help improve your skin’s texture and brightness. Those providing detoxifying effects that’s vital in order to give your skin time to recover and heal itself. If you can find a tea that promises to detoxify your skin, you may well notice that it also reduces the signs of ageing and plumps up your skin relatively quickly.

There are many teas on the market which contain milk thistle, burdock, red clover or oat straw – these are worth checking out as they work with the liver to purify it and cleanse. This is where a number of skin problems originate, so they are well worth trying if you are finding your skin isn’t looking its best. You can also add tea to witch hazel and apply it directly to the skin complaint if you need to – this will add a calming effect to combine with the internal healing process. Herbal teas are often overlooked in favour of the more common black tea and coffee, but they can offer some significant skin benefits when consumed regularly. If you cut back on the caffeine by choosing a decaffeinated variety, you’ll also save your body the dehydration that can cause. Naturally, a cup of tea can’t make up for a poor lifestyle, so these should be combined with plenty of exercise and a healthy diet. And if you smoke, give up as soon as possible to save your skin and avoid premature ageing, among a host of health concerns. But you may find that your skin begins to look plumper and healthier after just a week or two – the benefits make this well worth trying.

When it comes to anti-aging, and the products that contribute to this, the number one thing that makes you look young is to have glowing skin. When your skin is healthy, radiant and bright, it is as if your inner wellness and wellbeing are shining through, and this can often take years off your looks.

If you feel like you’ve lost your inner glow lately, the good news is that it can be faked using over-the-counter products. Simply by choosing the right skincare products, you can undo the effects of smoking, stress and all the other modern-day factors that contribute to dull and tired skin.

The most important thing is to start with a ‘fresh canvas’. This means that you should wash your face daily and get rid of any build-up of oils or bacteria. Then, make sure that you moisturise every day with an effective moisturiser that keeps your face smooth, protected and cared for.

Next, a luminising foundation can help to give your skin a subtle lift and glow, as if you have just come in from enjoying a bit of sunshine and a gentle breeze in the garden. There are lots of different products to choose from, many of which can be built up in layers to find the perfect glow for your skin.

If it’s summer time, another ideal way to get that glow is by using fake tan, or a bronzer in your makeup. Sitting in the sun may give you a golden look for a few hours or days, but overall the damaging effects of the sun on your skin can actually age you dramatically (not to mention the health risks) so it is worth finding a good bronzer instead to give you that happy, sun kissed look.
